I cosigned on an account a year ago. I expressly told the representative that I wanted to be notified if ever a payment was missed. This year, the person who was paying on the account told Household Bank to change her address. The address was never changed. In fact, Household Bank was told to change the address several times and did not. Statements kept being send to the wrong address. The primary person on the account was paying the her bills, but Household bank was not recording that they had been paid. Also, the primary payer had since the start of the loan become disabled. There was credit protection on the account. She asked Household bank about the credit protection and was told there was no such thing on the account. I was finally notified by collections that the loan had not been paid in three months. I had received no previous notice that payments had been missed, and since the primary payer was actually paying, I was never told by her that it was delinquent. This was a lie. I paid them the amount due after being told that the lateness of the account had not been posted to my credit report yet and that if I did pay, it would not be put on my credit report. This was also a lie. I found out a couple weeks later when I went to close on a new home that they had already posted it to my credit report. This caused me to lose my home because their reporting of false information on my credit report had lowered my immaculate credit rating to a great extent. When I tried to talk to customer service for Household Bank, no one would listen to me and apologized that one of their employees had given me false information. They would not change their false report the the credit agency, so my family and I had to move in with relatives until we can find a new place to live.

I am not an attorney, but I read your comment and I really feel badly for you as you seem to have really done your best. However, please remember that these business institutions are in the business of making money. They seem to want to help you....they are so personal. But, they want to make money. Therefor, ****Before you sign any contract read it in FULL. Really. Any questions, ask an attorney. It is worth a $150 to $300 hour long consultation with an attorney to save money down the road. Ask the business you intend to "do business with" for a blank copy of their contract BEFORE doing business with them. If they don't want to give it to you, don't do business with them. Find another company WHO IS WILLING TO LET YOU DO YOUR CONSUMER RESEARCH. If someone wants your business (ie. money) badly enough, they won't have any problem with this request. Bottom Line: when you sign your name to any document you are telling any Judge (if it comes to this down the road) that you read the contract, understood what it said, and agreed to EVERYTHING in it. Now you are responsible. If I were you, I would 1. catch up on your late payment (borrow money, sell personal items, downsize to a cheaper vehicle etc.) 2. shop around for a second mortgage, Home Equity Line of Credit (you can borrow money from an amount of the difference between what you owe on your home and what your home is now worth in today's market), or refinance to lower your payments. Refinance really works if you are lowering your interest rate by at least 1 and a half percent (1.5%) Good Luck and go with a lender who accepts any Licensed Appraiser's appraisal. I know what you mean about an appraiser pulling comparable properties ("comps") that really are not comparable to your. Take Care

Three months ago I went into Household Finance with paperwork showing I was going to be refinancing my home through a different company and I needed the payoff amount. At the Topeka office a young lady by the namae of Terri Dobbs listened to my concern and beg and plead to stay with their business. They told me they could help me and refinance and they would have Earl the gentleman that helped me before contact me. He called me and ran a supposed credit report and told me he could definitely refinace me and that all he needed to do was get some paperwork from me and he'd get an appraiser out to get me taken care of. The first time we did the original loan they had a crappy appraiser come out and undershoot the value of my home and compare it to 3 much smaller homes than mine. They kept trying to contact him and he'd never return their calls. They had to have another company come out and do it correctly. Well, the appraiser they sent out to do the refinance was the same crappy one from before. I called and told them this and Earl said it would be ok and to not worry about it. Two months later they informed me that all they had to get was a final approval and we'd close within the week. I then told them I had a house payment due then and ask them if I needed to pay or if they thought it would close in time and Earl said it won't be any problem to close and not worry about it. They then scheduled an appointment to come in and close and we showed up. They then asked me about a second mortgage on the house and I told them it was through them and it should've been on the credit report. They claimed they had to do a subordination and they'll be able to close onit in a few days. Two weeks later they inform me that they cannot close on my loan because there's a difference of $1500 that they can't assign to the loan and the loan amount. I ofered to pay it and they said they couldn't help me. In the mean time I have their collection department calling me and threatening me. So I talked to thei manager about it and Kathhy said that they'll do a skip payment and will take care of the interest too so it will get the collections department off my back. Well, she didn't and they're calling me still and threatening me. I wish I knew if there was any legal things I ca pursue them for because I feel it's very wrong for a company to do this and make promises they can't kepp and destroy people's lives.
