Howard's Hide Away ripoff dishonest. Said He would refund my money but only did half. Wyoming Michigan
On Jan. 29 I reserved a rental property from Lee Howard for the purpose of snowmobiling. Nothing was said about a cancellation policy. I sent him the money for the full rental. The rental was Feb. 10 to Feb. 14. He sent me a confirmation note and a pamphlet about the place. Nothing about a cancellation policy
On Feb. 6 I tried to contact him. He finally returned my calls on Feb. 9. and I told him I wanted to cancel because the trail reports were bad, and the weather report called for rain and warm temperatures.
He was upset but said he would refund my money. On Feb 22 I called him wanting to know the status of my refund. He said it was in the mail and I should have it by the end of the week. On Feb. 28 I called again and again he said it was in the mail. On March 2, I received a check for half of my refund, a note explaining "It is not our policy to give renters refunds when notice of cancellation occurs 24 hours before reserved date."
I couldn't get a hold of him earlier. And a slip with his cancellation policy written on it.
He had no policy until he sent me half of my money. It said he needed 15 days prior to departure. We first rented it less than 15 days so there was no way we could do that.
I don't think he should have told me he would refund my money and then only send half. He had no cancellation policy and so I feel I should receive all of my money. He was making up his policies as he went along. Not good business practices.
