Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

Facial cream deceptive marketing is still running strong in Canada and this time, they nabbed my elderly mother.

First you should know that this type of borderline fraudulent scheme is not illegal, they're a legitimate business pushing very expensive creme, although as you'll soon find out, they're willing to sell it dirt cheap when you back them into a corner. These are the internet's bottom feeders.

It was my dear old mother's lucky day, I happened to be at her place when her glorious box of Hydroluxe cream arrived. She said it was a free trial and that all she had to pay was the shipping. I knew straight away what it was, a trial is not a product, it's a signup and consent to charge your credit card a monthly fee in exchange for a supply of cream, I just didn't know what the damage would be and at $99.95 per month, it's a whopper.

Turn's out she got nabbed by reading a fake news story tying in Dragon's Den contestants to the product with a link to customer testimonials at the end. For American's reading this, Dragon's Den is the Canadian version of Shark Tank. Here is an example of such a news story still running as of writing this:

rockstarseo.ca/people-magazine-news-dragon-dens-biggest-deal/

The package she received had no company name, logo or any idenfiable markings, Even the the Canada Post sticker was nameless, all it had was an address in the From field which is likely their shipping facility (P.O. Box 500, North York, Ontario M3J 0J8). They do this to presumably discourage you from contacting them, they want you to forget about them until your credit card gets hit with the next month supply of $100 cream.

The bottle did have the Hydroluxe name on it and after finding their website and terms of service, all was revealed:

hydroluxebeauty.com/terms/

I called them (1-(647) 361-4622), spoke to a rep demanding a termination and RMA number to return the bottle and after he offered to cancel the deal if my mom paid for the bottle she recieved at a discount of $69.95 then $49.95 then $19.95, I asked him if he could hold the line while I conference in Master Card Fraud Prevention. That was the silver bullet, he instantly gave me a 17 digit RMA number, which I asked him to repeat 3 times, and the following return shipping address:

P.O Box 7750

599 Shepard Avenue

West Downsview ON

M3H 2W0

What's the moral of this story? If you have elderly parents who surf the web, educate them about the nasty world we live in.

Wrong shipping address

After reading up on the many tricks of the trade, I decided to check the shipping address they provided and sure enough, not only was the address wrong but the P.O. box as well. I called them back saying the call was being recorfded and this time I was given a correct return shipping address:

Hydroluxe

P.O. Box 77570

592 Sheppard Avenue West

Downsview, Ontario

M3H 2W0

Had the product been shipped to the previous address, it would have been returned giving them enough time to ship and charge the credit card with a second supply of $100 cream.
