I ordered an Ikea sofa online and paid $$319.19 for shipping/delivery. Since Ikea does not deliver to my area (Sapphire, NC, zip 28774), they contracted with a third party delivery service: Ian P. Climer Last Mile | Operations Manager XPO Logistics 1700 West Pointe Drive Suite E Charlotte, NC 28214 P: 305-728-8400 ext 4603 C: 704-909-9550 [email protected] | xpo.com Ikea failed to communicate to me that this company only delivers to my area in the a.m. on Mondays.

I am a school teacher and delivery(s) was (were) scheduled for the first week(s) of school, making it impossible for me to be at home to receive the product. Initially, I did not know this, and, after receiving my delivery date via email from Ikea, I contacted the company to arrange for an afternoon delivery. My delivery was rescheduled by an Ikea representative for Monday afternoon, between 4-9 pm. That Monday, I rec'd an email at work saying that they were at my residence with the sofa. I apologized to them and told them I could not leave work. I rescheduled the delivery a second time, again, being assured XPO would arrive between 4 and 9 pm. On that day, I rec'd an email, again in the a.m., from XPO indicating that they were at my house with the delivery.

Again, I informed them that I was unable to leave work to meet them. At that time, the XPO representative said, "Has IKEA informed you at all that a 5-9 is not possible for your area? I need confirm details so I can communicate with the right IKEA staff on what will and will not take place."The answer to his question was, "No." At this point I must inform you that this company's drivers had twice driven a delivery truck 45 minutes up (and back down) a narrow, winding mountain road to make this delivery (plus whatever other driving time was involved prior to reaching the base of the mountain). I informed the XPO rep that I was going to cancel the order. So, in short, Ikea arranged twice for a delivery time that the contractor was unable to deliver and, upon cancellation of the order, stuck me with the $300 bill. Ikea should be responsible for the shipping cost (plus an apology to XPO,) not me. I have saved all email communication with Ikea and XPO and can send that to you if necessary.
