Industry Model & Talent Studios Edgewater, New Jersey Ripped Off by IMTS Scam at Paramus Park, NJ Edgewater New Jersey
My son and I had just walked into the Paramus Park mall through the Sears entrance and the IMTS girls pounced on us. My 11 year old son pulled me away becuase he didn't want to be bothered. We weren't so lucky on the way out the girl from IMTS was practically begging us to listen to hear. That's when the compliments to my son were poured on thick and the questions about his activities and so on. I gave the girl my cell phone number on a Saturday and we received a call before the week was over to make an appointment for my son to come in. It was stressed that we not cancel the appointment because the director who would be interviewing my son had to drive 3 hours. I was advised that it was ok to change the time but not the date. Apparently everyone else had the same appointment time of 1:00 PM.
When my son and I arrived at the huge warehouse we signed in and had to wait for about 40 minutes before we were seen by Paula, a Dev. Dir. I never thought to ask what happened to the man who drove 3 hours.... Anyway the compliments to son began and most of the conversation was directed towards my son until it came down to the photo shoot price list.
I became concerned when I saw that list and immediately advised Paula the prices were a bit much to which she replied ' I can help you with the payments'. Reluntantly I left a $100.00 deposit using my credit card towards a $700.00 package. The photo shoot was set for 8/23/08. Paula never stopped talking the entire time we were there and when I tried to read the contract she would distract me with comments about what TV shows she likes to watch and of course more compliments to my son. So I feel like a sucker because when you sign the contract, you sign away any chance to recoup any money you have given them and if you don't cancel the photo shoot in seven days they will charge you a $100.00 rescheduling fee. This is all part of deceptive schemes and practices.
On Wednesday 8/20/08 I received a call from IMTS and advised them that my son would not be coming to the photo shoot. That's when the endless calling began. They must have called at least 2 -4 times a day until 8/23. I got another call from Donald Layton who claimed to be the Acct Manager I advised him to Cease & Desist, he had no idea what I was talking about and laughed saying you signed a legal document. I advised donald that the calling is now considered as harrassment and no judge in Bergen County would uphold any contract where nothing was provided. I've call the AG's office and will be filing a complaint. I am also contacting the FTC and the Paramus Park Mall to let them know they have scammers working in their mall.
