Informa Marketing Group Mystery Shopper Scam Houston Texas
Like the other person, I received a check a couple days ago from this "company" for $3993.28. They wanted me to take the $200 to the store or hotel of my choice (choose from the ones they listed) and spend it and keep the items I bought.
$3220 was to be sent back to the company, to an Elizabeth Thompson, via a Western Union Moneygram. $300 was mine to keep for working, and the remaining $173.28 was for "Service Charge for Western Union/Moneygram."
It also said that I needed to call Elizabeth Thompson, my "assignment coordinator", to confirm the receipt of the check. I called the number that I listed, and it was an Indian gentleman and he said that Elizabeth Thompson was on vacation and what could he help me with.
I stated that I had questions regarding the validity of this and he got angry with me and went over the directions very loudly. I could not understand at all what he was saying. I asked for a website and he said they do not have one, then hung up on me. I called back to ask if they could verify any BBB credentials for me, and he told me Ms. Thompson would call me back and hung up on me again!
I did a little investigating, and the address on the letterhead is in Houston, Texas. The phone number is in Ontario, and the return address on the envelope was Quebec. The check is from Pioneer Investment Mgt USA Inc. in Boston, Massachusetts.
Please alert other people about this! I nearly fell for it, so I am sure that there are other people out there who have!!
