Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
It all started with a Tuesday night seminar. With a motto like "Earn while you learn, " how could I go wrong? With an advanced education and lots of experience, I was very sure that if anyone could be successful at real estate investing, it would be me.

I spoke with CEO Charles Parrish and was assured that all the personal mentoring and assistance that I would need would just be a phone call away. They would be behind me 100%. That was all the reassurance that I needed. I signed up right away.

Over the course of several months, I started putting some deals together and wasn't sure how to proceed. I tried contacting Charles Parrish, but was told to leave a message because he was too busy. I tried to talk to several other staff members, but they also were busy. One staff member in charge of mentoring students offered to help me only if I would partner with him on the deal, basically cut him in on 50% of the profit. I didn't need a partner. All I needed was someone to answer a couple of basic questions.

I found this to be the general theme of this school. No one would help me until I agreed to cut them in on the profit. The instructors don't look for their own deals, they take them from students who are looking for guidance. I was so nauseated by the greed and lack of promised mentorship, that I left the school early. I didn't want to waste anymore of my time.

I feel like a fool. I was ripped off for thousands of dollars and there is really not much that I can do about it.

To anyone thinking of signing up for this school...don't. Save your money. Search online for local investment groups that will give you 90% of the information you would receive here free. The rest of the information would be offered via low cost seminars through these same investment groups.

the question about help at iu

so I am reading comments on ripoff report about iu and see Ian Parrish trying to defend the company his family operate,as he should. I have met them all and find Ian and his mother most helpful, his mother with the administrative and financial relationship you have with the school and Ian if available with your education at iu. I have even shown unannounced to ask questions and he has taken the time to help. I attended the school maybe seven or eight years ago so can't testify to how it is now and don't want to tell them how to run a business but the comment was made that instructors would never issue an ultimatum to a student that to get help they would need to partner on a deal. I found in my time there that it was not so much an ultimatum as it is strongly implied. Maybe the model should be classes with a mentorship program. My advice to anyone looking to join this school is to make sure you are very committed to real estate investing and since the money you will spend at this school is not small is ask lots of questions and watch out for sharks.

My husband and I recently graduated from Investors United (July 2008). We bought the Carlton Sheets course 3 times and had been trying to invest for 17 years with zero results before we joined IU. We did our first deal a few months after we joined, with one of our instructors, Joe Bucci. We chose to partner with Joe and we split the deal 50-50 by choice. Because we were still a little green with investing, Joe had no problems with answering any of our many questions. He put the money up for advertising and marketing, handled the auction for us, wrote the contract, and a lot of the other work that was involved. Joe was great to work with. He explained every step of the process from start to finish. It was a great learning experience for us. We are very glad to have worked with Joe and it was more than fair in our book because the money from that deal more than paid for our tuition. The one-on-one experience with the instructor of our choice was priceless. We're now working on several more deals, and loving every minute of it. Be assured that all of the instructors are great and we never once felt like we couldn't ask for help. In fact, we had many questions for all of our instructors in each class that we took. We never felt that partnering was a pre-condition for receiving advice from any of them. We chose to partner with Joe because we connected with him and felt very comfortable with him. We trusted his expertise not only to give us sound advice, but to also share the work it takes in putting a deal together and he was willing to put the money up to complete our first deal. Charles and Ian Parrish are very successful and busy people, but they had always taken time to talk to us to see how we were doing. When we left messages or emails, they always got back to us and helped us with any problems or questions that we had. In fact, Ian was kind enough to provide us with a lead to follow up on. He worked very close with us always pointing us in the right direction. Between the classes, the mastermind meetings, all of the instructors and now the online data service - the sky is the limit for the many resources available at IU. We are sure that many more are to come. If you are willing to learn, they are willing to teach - there's no questions about that! Investors United do what they say - and say what they mean. There's no two ways about it, "you earn while you learn!" In short we'd like to say from our own experience, Investors United has been nothing less than the best thing we've ever done. Now this doesn't mean it's right for everybody, but it has worked out great for us. Since this is the internet and anyone can say whatever they want on a site like this, feel free to email us if you want to get in touch with us or ask a specific question. Serious inquires only please - we are very busy working on potential deals - but we will get back to you!

To Whom It May Concern: My name is Ian Charles Parrish, President of Investors United School of Real Estate, and I am writing to respond to the comments posted by "Ron." I have taken time to carefully look into the matter and I can say with certainty that we have no record of a Member named Ron communicating any problem whatsoever to our faculty or staff. There are three currently enrolled Members by the name of Ron and each is moving forward successfully. I believe that the complaint was a scare tactic posted by a local real estate group seeking to sell their courses to prospective Investors United members. There are many so-called experts in the real estate education industry who have much less actual investing experience than they would have you believe, so it is important that consumers perform careful due diligence prior to purchasing ANY real estate course. I urge any person who is considering enhancing their real estate education to take a moment to download our free 2008 Consumer Guide entitled 6 Vital Questions to Ask before Investing in a Real Estate Course. Download Investors United's Free 2008 Consumer Guide: http://www.InvestorsUnited.com/6VitalQuestions.shtml Now, in addition to the fact that we have no record of an IU Member named Ron who dropped out, there are several other inconsistencies which indicate the falsehood of the so-called complaint. For example, Ron does not list his last name as a person of conviction with a bona-fide issue would. Also, Ron commented that he went to a Tuesday evening class and signed up right away, but that is not possible because every applicant to Investors United goes through a competitive admissions process. Quite frankly, Investors United School of Real Estate is not for everyone; and not everyone who applies for enrollment is admitted. Ron commented that all of our faculty and staff were too busy to help him, but that could not be true because I was never contacted. Moreover, members have access to five Mastermind Meetings per week where they can sit down personally with an instructor. Between our twelve Instructors, our three Resident Instructors, and our handful of Graduate Assistants, Alumni, and Professional Affiliates - all of whom can be contacted by cell phone, e-mail, or in person - support with a smile is always nearby. We even have a 24-hour return call (and e-mail) Pledge to ensure that no message falls through the cracks. (Check out some of our many endorsements and testimonials: http://www.InvestorsUnited.com/Endorsments.shtml) At IU, there's no shortage of assistance; members are surrounded by successful investors. Our collaborative environment can accelerate your learning curve; members can learn from the experiences of others and get answers to questions they didn't even think to ask. It's why Investors United Members are known as some of the most knowledgeable, creative, and successful real estate investors around. Want proof? Just give us a call to come meet them. I am disturbed by Ron's comment that the Investors United faculty would not help him unless he offered them a 50% interest in his transaction. None of our faculty would ever be so crass as to make such an ultimatum. That is not who we are. We are accomplished investors; we do not need to take opportunities from our members. Our dedicated, award-winning faculty is at your service. Investors United instructors are successful real estate entrepreneurs, Fortune 500 senior executives, distinguished attorneys, CPAs, and professors from the world's leading educational institutions such as Johns Hopkins and George Washington University. They're real-world experts like Edward J. Leyden, Esq., Chairman of the American Bar Association, Stephen Ferrandi C.I.S., who has sold $300 Million in land, and Charles Bud Runkles who manages one of the largest real estate portfolios in the region. (For more information about our faculty: http://www.InvestorsUnited.com/Faculty.shtml) Ron also commented that there was not much he could do about his purported experience. A real Investors United Member would know how much my faculty and staff care about our members, and if a real member had a problem they would not hesitate to speak freely with us. A real IU Member would also know about Our Guarantee. Unlike seminars and boot camps, we are so confident in our program that we guarantee your success in writing. If you do your part by attending class, meeting with instructors, and reporting your progress, you'll earn at least your tuition or we'll stand by you until you do. You will succeed. Guaranteed. (For more information about Our Guarantee: http://www.InvestorsUnited.com/Guarantee.shtml) Finally, Ron commented that 90% of the information taught at Investors United is obtainable in low-cost seminars from other investment groups. By now, I hope that it is obvious to consumers that selling low-cost seminars is what Ron is really after. However, since Ron opened the door I am happy to go on to explain what distinguishes Investors United from get-rich-quick seminars and boot camps. You can find out here: http://www.InvestorsUnited.com/6VitalQuestions.shtml. In short, RESULTS are what distinguishes Investors United from the gurus. From the quality of our courses, to the credentials of our faculty, to the level of service we give our students, no other real estate investment school offers a higher level of support than Investors United or enjoys our track record of success. And we are continually bringing new benefits to our program to exceed your expectations. Thank you for investing the time to do your homework about Investors United School of Real Estate.
