On 3/25/09, a representative from Kirby/J&L Distributing here in Reno Nevada (30 years with Kirby - according to the rep "Michael") shows up to sell a $2600 dollar vacuum cleaner to my wife. But wait, he'll knock the price down to $1800... and look what it does... it sucks dirt and cleans floors too! So, he gets my wife to begin completing an application for credit... she fills in all the information including my personal data and social security, but she does not sign the application. She's not totally stupid on this matter (Yes, I called her stupid for giving my info at all!), she is waiting for me to come home to discuss this and make sure we'd be willing to spend almost $2K on a fricken vacuum cleaning system! So - no one has authorized this rep to run a credit check. I come home, the agent continues with his pitch, I tell him we're not going to spend $1800 on a vacuum, he tells me he can get me 12 months same as cash on a credit approval, I tell him VERY SPECIFICALLY that I do not want to purchase ANYTHING on credit! He packs up and leaves.

Now, as a consumer who is learning to be responsible for credit and to be protective of my personal identity, credit rating, and all that... I have been paying for several years to have my credit report monitored. The goal: identify rats like this that try to pull fast ones on my credit! You see, I had ran into something similar with a car dealership - by the way, don't sign a dealership's release to run credit for multiple credit providing sources; in a few days, the dealership had ran nearly twenty!!! The lesson I learned was that credit checks may reduce your credit score and remain on file for two years. How that affects you and I is that two or more credit checks in the past year can mean paying a higher interest rate and/or loan charges for credit that you truly desire! The more credit checks you have on your credit record, the more you appear to be reaching out for credit you do not qualify for.

3/28, 3/29, and 3/30 - I receive a credit alert from FreeCreditReport.com. Guess what they are alerting me to? Alerting me to J&L Distributing - all three reporting agencies are now indicating that these @#$(*&@#$@ unlawfully used my personal information to run my credit report without authorization!

FOLKS - do not give these SOB's your information EVER - and do not refer them to your "friends".
