Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

We purchased a Ford Freestar van in May of 2015. We have had nothing but trouble with it. During the time that it was "under warranty" we would have to take it to their shop several times to get the same issue resolved. We weren't happy about the amount of time they were having our van while we continued to make payments on it. However, we needed it fixed so we dealt with it.

The original problem was that it was leaking/burning oil. After multiple trips to their garage they finally claimed to change out the engine, but we continued to have the same problem of having to put 3 to 5 quarts of oil in per month. Also, the bolts necessary to be removed to change out the engine were corroded and showed no evidence of having been loosened. They finally replaced the engine and we still had leakage problems. After more trip to their garage we finally got that issue resolved after about 5 months. Since then we have had ongoing issues with the check engine light coming on, the locks frequently unlock after pushing the lock button in the van and we will have to use the remote to lock the doors. When you start the van the radio will rest to 12:00 and all of the preset stations will clear as if the battery has been disconnected. And sometimes when you try to start it it will not turn over, again you have to try to put the van out of gear and then back in park before it will start. They have put a new ignition in stating that would solve these issues. Now that the warranty has expired, we had to pay for this. We still had the same issues and had to take it to them 3 times to get an "issue" with the purge valve fixed. After picking it up the 3rd time the check engine light came back on the very next day. We took it back and now they are saying it is a different purge valve.

We are now at the point that we dont even know if theu are actually fixing things we are not working or just guessing ans chargomg us fornthe work. Calls to the service office manager do not get returned. Calls to their corporate office aren't returned. We feel there is an electrical issue but are not being taken seriously and are having our time and money wasted on purge valves. We have asked to trade the van for a different one due to the amount of issues we have had. Upon purchase we were told that all of their vehicles are put through a rigorous inspection before being sold. That does not seem like it could possibly be true based on trouble we havery had.

Solution to your problem

First, I don't work for this dealership or any other dealership.

There is a solution to your problem, though:  don't take it back to JD Byrider for any repairs at all. Based on the sheer number of reports around the web, it looks like JD Byrider locations don't have good mechanics on staff. The best thing for you to do is to take it to a good local mechanic and repair it at your expense. I know this is not what you want to hear, but if you want to get the mechanical issues taken care of, then take it to a good mechanic. At least then you will have a vehicle that operates until you can either pay down the loan or pay off the loan.

An alternate solution would be to sell it to CarMax. However, the odds are very good that you owe more on the loan than the vehicle is worth.  You can find out by getting a quote to sell it to see how much cash you would need to bring to complete the sale.

Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES is it a good idea to trade for another vehicle by JD Byrider.  If you choose to trade, you will dig yourself into a much bigger hole.
