This company is a scam and the FTC has already filed suit against it back in April. I wouldn't rely on them to remove anything from your credit report. What you can do is go to www.annualcreditreport.com and pull up your credit report (for free). You can find out whether this is actual debt or something that is not yours or was paid years ago (Jefferson Capital has a habit of doing this). On your report there will be an option to file a dispute, which the credit reporting agency will investigate and remove if they find it is an error or fraud. I would also suggest that if you find out Jefferson Capital was being fradulent with their information (as I found out they tried to do to me) you can file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (www.bbb.org) and the Federal Trades Commission (www.ftc.gov). I hope you are able to get it resolved.
