...problem is, this is an overseas scam...I do not think the FBI has the money or manpower to investigate every overseas scammer. It is an internet ad and could be untraceable. As well, wiring money is also untraceable which is why the scammers will only except payment that way.
There is not much eBay can do.. eBay is a victim as well. The scammer is using pasted eBay logos and links to fake sites etc.. so what can they really do? How does eBay know when a scammer has made a fake email or a fake ad somewhere else? Ebay deals with millions of transactions a day of there own, how are do going to deal with someone elses fraudulent transactions? This really comes down to common sense of the consumers.
The problem really starts at Craigslist. But as well, they are dealing with millions of ads, they can not hire someone to watch every ad coming in 24 hours a day, or personally contact everyone who uses Craigslist. The users of Craiglist can flag it, and it will be removed. But the scammers will find a way to list it again, change a few details..well that is how it is done.
But what Craigslist does do..is CLEARLY post this warning on the very top of the site when you go to car and truck sales...screen shot.. (it is also a live link you can click which warns how to avoid the scams)
[ OFFERS TO SHIP CARS ARE 100% FRAUDULENT ]
Now honestly..how does someone miss that?? And what is it about 100% fraudulent that is hard to understand? 100% means EACH and EVERY time. It sucks that there are scammers like this that rob poor people..but it is also up to anyone who goes on the internet, to know how it works and use caution before believing too good to be true deals and suspicious ads..
