Job.com is an employment referral website and they use their sister company, Resumezapper.com, to distribute resumes to prospective employers. I was somewhat naive about these employment referral websites when I first went to them and I cannot stress enough to use caution when dealing with them.

The next day after signing up to have my resume distributed by Resume Zapper.com, to whom I paid to keep my personal address and phone number confidential, I received a phone call from a job training company. Since I paid an extra $19 to keep my personal contact information confidential, I wondered how it was that this job trainer found out my phone number. I emailed Resume Zapper and they emailed back stating that I must have given my contact information out while visiting job.com when I signed up, but that in fact my personal information was indeed being kept confidential.

Since I could not remember whether or not I actually may have divulged my contact information by accident, I went along with this explanation and good-naturedly replied that I took their word for it, but just the same to be sure to keep my contact information private. I thought it was all settled when all of a sudden I received a phone call from a customer service agent from Resume Zapper.com who immediately became very confrontational on the phone, accusing me of not understanding or reading her email correctly. I could not believe such lack of professionalism and rudeness.

Since I did not sign up to be treated in this way, I immediately visited job.com and requested a refund of my total fee of $68.99, which they have refused to refund. I then contacted the Better Business Bureau and filed a complaint against Resume Zapper/Job.com. Here is the clincher: when the Better Business Bureau referred my complaint to the company for investigation/resolution, IT WAS THE SAME CUSTOMER SERVICE AGENT- WHO NOW CALLED HERSELF "SUPERVISOR" - AGAINST WHOM I FILED THE COMPLAINT THAT ALSO INVESTIGATED THE COMPLAINT AND REPLIED TO THE BBB. Talk about a conflict of interest! I have never heard of a company who has no other supervisors or chain of command to investigate complaints other than the same individual who created the complaint issue in the first place! Despite this lack of oversight and obvious conflict of interest, the BBB sided with Job.com/Resume Zapper.com. and closed the complaint.

All I can say is be cautious when going to employment referral websites, but especially Job.com/Resume Zapper.com. There is no professionalism or objectivity there. At another employment referral website that I visited - NOT Job.com - after paying $9.99 to have my resume critiqued, they wanted in excess of $300 to have it re-written by so called "resume professionals." These people don't think twice about taking money from job seekers who may be unemployed and in dire financial difficulties - they are totally unethical.
