I had a phone call early in the morning regarding this company claiming to be a legal office and they are urging me to pay my full debt. They said that their client, had file a lawsuit against me and Judith Stanton is nicely enough to give me another chance and settle this out of court if I make a payment. Or if I cant make the full payment that she could write a letter of extension on my behalf if I could make a minimum payment of 200 dollars for the next 6 months. And I fall for it and gave my routing number with my checking account and authorize a payment. Now I found out that they are SCAMS and they able to take 200 dollars out of my account.

What's the scam?

Maybe you guys just aren't accustomed to dealing with collection agencies, but I fail to see what the scam is here, or why there is any reason to doubt that this company is actually collecting for the debts that you admittedly owe.

In fact, they wanted the above-rebuttalist to make his money order payable to the original creditor. I would take that as a sign that they are legit.

Whether or not they are a law firm is really beside the point. When it comes to collections, there really is no significance to whether the company doing the collecting is a law firm or just a collection agency. A law firm may be more likely to pursue legal action, but just because it's a law firm doesn't mean that they will sue. And a lawyer has no more power over you than any other collector.

The best advice is to not communicate with them until you are ready to pay the debt in full, or for a negotiated amount, in one lump sum. Any other communication can only do you harm. When you have about 60% of the amount owed available for payment, call and see if they will settle for a lump sum partial payment. But never make payment arrangements.

And no, they can NOT get you thrown in jail for not cooperating. This is a civil matter. If a debt collector ever threatens you with jail, send them a cease and desist letter and report the activity to the FTC and your state's attorney general.

Best regards!

Hi Ms. Judith, I am being harrassed by SRS Assocs. as well. They have hounded me for the last two months. I am indebted to a company for around $900 and SRS swears that they were hired by this company to collect. I had set up previous payment arrangements but when my wife saw all of the postings regarding this crappy company; I did not follow through on the payment schedule.

They wanted me to send $450 money order made out to the company that I originally owed the money too and then the next month...send the final $450 which would clear it up. However, as I said once I saw all of the bad things about this harrassing company~I blew them off.

They called again today and left a message. The name of the man calling was Richard Abraham-probably a fake name...and he was SO RUDE & OBNOXIOUS! How can I get rid of this company from bothering me?

I was just wondering how your situation ended up...and Oh, they also told me that they were a legal office~Yet, the first guy (Frank Shapiro) COULD NOT GIVE ME ANY REQUESTED INFO ON THE DEBT!!!!

I mean, Yes I owe the debt but not to them...However, they can't send me to jail for this right? People are having it rough right now...I am barely getting by just with paying rent/car/electric/propane/food etc...I am NOT TRUSTING these jerks!

Please respond as I would like to hear what you have to say!

Thank You!

Mr. Elliott

Close your bank account and reopen it with new #s If they call and ask for the new account# refuse to give it. You need to put a stop payment on these as well and then close the account and reopen it with new #s
