UM, to my knowledge, there is no respectable registry that actually qualifies purebreds that registers ANYTHING as tea-cup. It is just a term for a SMALL or tiny dog. It has no VALIDITY whatsoever. Now, I am not one of those people who believe that a dog has to meet standard to be purebred. In fact, I remember the days when the average size for a yorkie was about eleven pounds or so (many many years ago) however, for the sake of this example, I am going to use an AKC standard - Chihuahua standard says not to exceed 6 lbs (this is FOR SHOW points, not just to BE a chihuahua), now tell me, how the heck do you go smaller than 0 lbs to get a tea-cup????? This tea-cup thing is driving me absolutely fricking nuts. My four pound yourkie is just that, my yorkie. People constantly refer to him as a tea-cup, the answer is a resounding NO. If you are so intent on getting a tiny tiny dog, there are a few breeders who do offer size guarantees, but you are paying out the *** for it, and you can not qualify usually if your dog has ANY extra fat. Those tiny tiny dogs tend to be extremely unhealthy with a WAY shorter life span as well. All health tests show my yorkie to be healthier than the majority of the 4 and 5 year old dogs at my vet clinics. He is eleven. At this rate, he might go till twenty. I'll take my twenty years instead of the eight I'd likely have (not to mention the medical bills) if he was 1 or 2 lbs smaller. Thanks for the vent, I'm sure I'll be unable to restrain myself somewhere else as well :-). Aside from that, I am very glad your pup pulled through and is now healthy and well. The above was not directed at you, but at the whole tea-cup spiel. Please be very careful with her around other dogs in the future as I belive that survivors can periodically shed the disease, and transmitt it to others. Kudos to your vet for giving her the TLC they need to pull through.
