Complaint Review: Kaplan University - Nationwide

Financial Aidis to attend school, not pay your bills or debts. The money goes directly to the school, if there is any left over from a loan it would come to you. But Kaplan is a private and very expensive school and there is never any money left over from your financial aid to pay for any of your debts or bills.
Had you of chosen a local college you most likely would have had money left over to help you with whatever until you finished school. That is how financial aid works, it is a combination of grants and loans and it is not enough to pay for a private on line school so you will always have some out of pocket expenses!
Just a little information for you regarding Title IV funding and online education!

I will only be available at the number listed in my signature below ---- for 1 hour on Monday September 10, 2007. The first thing I want to hear form you is that help is immediately enroute. Let me suggest Federal Express so I can become able to get off the Street and the leave the Shelter. My anger is building everyday I am forced to sit in a cooling center all day and sleep in a cot in a shelter.

Perhaps if my education was important and school meant something, we would not have delayed this position I am in to this level where I cannot attend classes again because of no money and misrepresentations based upon ill bookkeeping and fraud. Consider that I will need to have walked at least five miles in the blazing hot sun to accommodate your request to be available for this call. I also responded top your call the next day Friday September 7, 2007 at approximately no later than 1:00 PM. I walked five miles to make that phone call. I walked five miles to type this document and I have been walking about five miles each direction every time I was given sort of word that something has transpired on this matter. Lets end the game today so I can save my health and strength. We are into several days of homelessness and walking. I have proof of all of this with The County of Riverside.

Consider that I have lost weeks of ability to be working based upon the fraud and poor handling of what was supposed to be my education and at a considerable loss of credibility to Kaplan, I have also been waiting since 06/29/07 for the benefit of the education and have discovered it is almost impossible to reach anyone in many documented attempts to right the deficiencies that exist in your systems and accountings.

I no longer have an address, phone number or place to stay and was kicked out of the place I was staying last week. My roommate has been allowing me an occasional entry to get my stuff, take a shower or check e-mail and I am homeless. I blame Kaplan University for all of this.

My roommate or past roommate, Michael has assured me that if Kaplan University could send me a check, I could come back. He does not mind it going to his address and he can be reached at ----. His cell phone. It would restore his faith in me lost as a direct result of me spending weeks trying to reach someone, tying up his home phone, deteriorating my job search and his faith in my word. I have tied Mr. ----'s financial situation up more than it needed to be and he is now late with his own Mortgage.

The Monday morning time I will be available for your call will be from 0800 to 0900 PST and I will not be looking forward to your excuses and misrepresentations and already have spent several days trying to reach you and you never picked up the phone. I am ashamed at Kaplan University for not giving me a straight answer and holding hostage all this approved financial aid from me. I am totally aware of the Laws, State of IOWA and California, State of Illinois, State of Florida, which exists in both Consumer Protection and my rights as a consumer. I have also sent a copy of all pertaining notes and documents to the Attorney General at their requests for an investigation and have filed online for satisfaction of their requirements to investigate.

At Issue #1: I have called CITIBANK daily; I made them aware that I have not yet received the dispersion of the money, its amounts dated 08-02-07. This would have saved my eviction (1) 2266 Araby Drive Palm Springs Ca.) And eviction (2) 66750 12 Th. Street, Desert Hot Springs, California and a Vehicle repossession. That loss totals a whopping $45,000 in damages. Because your staff, mostly Jocelyn, has not yet gotten it right and makes up the whole thing as she goes along, has absolutely misrepresented to me the entire information and it differs greatly from Citibank FASFA and my entire accounting of the situation.

I am looking at Intentional infliction of emotional Distress, Punitive damages, and this would enable any Jury to award me three times or more than the amount of losses or amount lost and in controversy. I am a Paralegal and have been since 1986. What your college did not know is that I know what the laws are and the fact that your college is holding hostage that in which I needed to keep my utilities and or housing in place has also been approved in all regards. I know this to be true and it was verified daily with information supplied by all parties. Daily.

I made daily calls to CITIBANK, FASFA, I have been assured of all the funds KAPLAN has had. The dates they were received and the overages.

I know about the differences in subsidized and unsubsidized Loan instruments.
I have a Pell Grant that was approved and distributed to Kaplan.
I have a scholarship through the Secret Service that was approved.
I have a Stafford Loan.
I have a CitiAssist Loan

I have also been billed way over and have received bills reflecting an amount owed and reductions to the amount of financial Aid I was to get form the misappropriations of the dates and times I was restarted. I started and took a beginning school twice and I am being way over billed with all of the instruments I have in place your School is over billing me because your school also demanded that I restart and I became suicidal over the CitiAssist Loan being told to me by Jocelyn that she sent it back.

This would have saved my House on Araby Drive and my $28,000 truck from repossession and the amounts I am being sued for the loss of the Auto Loan and the Eviction of the one-year lease totals the amount of $45,000.00 or more.

At Issue #2, Kaplan made decisions to delay my education, against my advice and then further delaying my financial aid and then also misinforming me that my Citibank CitiAssist would be sent back which was also not true and contrary to the actual facts of that Citibank representatives assigned to me stated. This placed me further in danger and resulted in losses and this directly worsened all of the attempts and erased any chances I had at survival to the point where it set me further in a behind mode with respect to the daily cost of living, cost of being a student, and allowed Kaplan University to delay the payments of financial aid for which I was entitled to and allow that same financial aid to artificially be reflected as profit in Kaplans Bank account also earning a considerable interest to which I was charged a considerable interest to that same money in its not being dispersed. CITIBANK is cooperating with me to a potential Lawsuit now that this whole mess has been exposed and the Media is becoming involved.

The Start date of July 5 th that occurred was delayed after I missed a log-on and had to spend many days without electricity and cable and this outage of all utilities occurred after I filed a Financial aid application and made formal request for same and was then given the runaround by Angelissa Woolcock, a Representative of Kaplan University, this recommendation made by her resulted in immediate submission of application to the CitiAssist as I stated to her that I need Financial aid to buy INK, keep my utilities and Lights and Power on to be abler to attend school.

At Issue #4: My health has deteriorated drastically to the point where I am now diabetic since I have spent so much time without food and water and it was discovered while in the hospital that I am diabetic. I have not yet been able to attend a doctors visit and able to take a bus to Palm Springs under an Adult referral to an indigent Medical Clinic provided by The County of Riverside because $1.oo has not yet been received by Financial aid and no one will loan me a dollar my credibility is in question because of the lies I have been fed about amounts and Financial aid I am to be receiving.

No one believes me anymore and my next closes KIN, My parents would probably rather hear that I died so they file a wrongful Death case against you and the Kaplan Representatives. My own Father has mentioned this to me in the last few calls that I have no chance at getting help and he hates the word education based upon what it now has been represented to him. In short, I have lost my parents and all that that was. Thank You!

At Issue #5: My ability to go to school is non existent until Kaplan provides me financial Aid. This makes me very sad since it seems not only are you screwing with my finances of that I need to be a student, Kaplan has restarted me so many times and held this money and I have been embarrassed by this to those who know me. I Have students that have watched this occur to me. I am not happy about the following harassment that has been received by e-mail form Kaplan Admission Advisors who have such useful advise that reiterate my need to stay in school and do good with grades and this same carrot was the subject excuse that either was used to delay or keep my financial Aid and support the further fraud. If Kaplan Cared they would have returned any of the many messages I left. Or not sent this communication called lets make Steven feel even worse.

I have been informed by at least one instructor that she would welcome me back. I believe she says hang in there and we seem to share some ideas and philosophies. It would be my intentions to seek an immediate resolution to this matter and then I will reflect the resolution to the other parties concerned and get good grades. Helene Kabot was hoping I would make the Deans List and that information would be easily verified in your organization. The part that went wrong is all under your control and delay. My missing two classes and restated twice was under your control and held as carrot to my financial aid.

Please be timely and factual at this point it concerns your future.

Declaration by Steven --- that the forgoing is true ands correct to the best of my knowledge and I currently reside in the County of Riverside, State of California and I am over the age of 18 and this communication was sent to Kaplan University by Electronic E-mail, To the names involved and that only call received once while attempting to stay with Mr. -- at ----, California has had only one call since August 21st form Ms McGuire or anyone from Kaplan University. This only call came from Ms Quire after two weeks of leaving her messages and Jocelyn Joseph and Helene Kabot and not ever getting any return calls from there dialing.

I applied for Federal Financial Aid, Scholarships, Grants and Financial Aid. The School is not providing that which I borrowed and was approved for by Citibank. I needed the Finacial aid to stop an apossible eviction from occuring, stop an auto repossession from occuring, to buy INK and Paper for an inkjet printer, to pay utilites and wanted to upgrade my Police Recruitment with a degree and better education.

I was given no straight answeres when I called to get information and I often spent the entire day on the phone trying to find out why my financial Aid was not received. I had no out of pocket expenses required and I had school fully paid for. I was short one log-on due to my electricity being cut off because my fincial aid did not come as it was expected. Becuase of this I was forced to restart and this delay casued Finacial aid to get delayed even further.

I then made my best attempts and repoeatedly requested that they expedite the funds and fincial aid to me. I was told by Kaplan that they sent back my Citibak Loan of $5,000.00 and then went suicidal as my truck was repossessed and I was served a notice to vacate at my house. They did not send the money back.

They lied to me and Citibak said to me that I need a Lawyer and that Kaplan University is scamming everyone that applies. I then called Kapln University and gave them another chance and also researched through FASFA and Citibank that bin fact Kaplan has been sitting on my $9,000.00 overage (Meant to be my Financial Aid since June 29th over 3 Months and then shortly bafetr that and while remaining on daily log-ons and keeping up with my homework and getting good grades, Kaplan intentionally lied again to me and said misinformation and did not expedite the funds and then I was served an eviction notice again at a temporary place where I was staying and this mtime I am going to be on the Street. I would have been much better off not to have them cause intentional Infliction of emotional distress.

They have ruined my Credit both directly and indirectly bny placing me in Homelessness and causing me to loose Housing, transportation and the ability to keep a job. They promise that your Finacial Aid is on its way and then it never comes and you are then forced to spend entire days on the phone only to be hung up on mistransfered to non answered phone extensions, told that you are being audited or docked because you were one log on two short. Penalized because you are not paying cash right into there deep un-organized sticky pockets.

I have the media and Congress and Senate working on some educational lessons for the Criminal asspects of Kaplans Fincial Fraud Grade book. I have consumer protection expertise and my dgree in Criminology will come in quite useful as this case unfolds. Thank God I am a Paralegal already and kept great records and notes. I am working on removing there accredation and capability of graduating more victims.
