Kauai Garden Cottages should be ashamed! During our recent trip to Kauai, we booked three nights at Lynn and Thayne Taylor guest house, Kauai Garden Cottage, through VRBO. From the moment we pulled into the driveway, we were beyond disappointed. Their website and advertising claims the cottage is "private, quiet and secluded." Absolutely untrue. The "cottage" is located STEPS from the front door of the main house. The windows in the cottage look directly into the main house. Even worse...you can hear EVERYTHING. Every conversation. And, if it's not bad enough that you can hear, and see, their every move. To add to they extremely awkward stay, they are consistently being invasive; reminding their guests to "shut the windows" and "be sure to turn off the lights." And, just in case you forget how to be an adult, they have "friendly" reminder notes in the cottage...EVERYWHERE! "Please, no hair dying in the bathroom," just to name one.
Quiet? I don't think so. The unforgiving and heartless hosts, Lynn and Thayne Taylor, continued their full-on construction, completed with a full international construction team, during our entire stay. It was 4 feet from our front door and began promptly at 8:00 a.m. each morning and continued through 6:00 p.m. I am not kidding. Apparently, they are buidling a sound studio. I don't see the "noise" issue improving.
Lastly, I think it's important to note that I am not your typical reviewer who hides behind a computer to complain. During our stay, I did the adult thing and confronted Thayne about our concerns. He was unapologetic, heartless and cruel. He, and I quote, said "well, most people our out during the day." It was 6:00 p.m. at this point. Really, Kauai Garden Cottages? Have you read your own website?

I am glad to see that this site - Ripoff Report - has finally added the rebuttal feature. This feature was not available when the erroneous report was filed against Kauai Garden Cottages. Thankfully due to our excellent reputation no harm was done. I'll take this opportunity to go point by point regarding this "complaint".
Yes, our suites are attached to the main house by a covered walk way. The cottage suites are exactly 30 feet from the main house door. There are no windows on the front of the main house. The windows of our main house do not look directly into the cottage windows. I find if difficult to believe that one could hear every conversation since I built both structures with double walled construction with fiberglass R44 insulation. One would have to have their ear to the door to hear anything. Yes we do remind our guests to close the windows when they leave because the weather can change quickly here on Kauai. Yes we ask people to be sure to turn off their lights because we have the highest utility rates in the nation. No hair drying in the bathroom is a complete lie! Yes we did have some work being done on a remodel project but no work was started until our guests have left for the day and quit before they came back for the day. I also offered to refund their money in total and find them a different place to stay if they wanted and was politely turned down. The lady who wrote this report obviously was having problems of her own. It is unfortunate that she decided to write her complaints down here and not come and talk with me about her concerns. We strive very hard to make sure our guests are comfortable and are enjoying their stay with us. We have been doing this for twelve years now and this is the only complaint we have ever had.
