Kevin A. Digney Faked Kidnapping

:

A bizarre story of an Armory Square restaurant owner, Kevin Digney, who went to great lengths to avoid a messy court proceeding with his own family. Ambrosia's co-owner, Kevin Digney, faked his own abduction so he wouldn't have to show up to court.

Kevin Digney would come to work everyday, at Ambrosia, the trendy and popular restaurant. But police say at the same time he was in a legal battle with his family-- partially over money. He was supposed to show up in court on Thursday, but instead police say he was at a crack house with a friend ... pretending he'd been kidnapped. Lieutenant Joe Cecile: He stayed there for a day and a half and called a friend up and told him that he had been kidnapped and his captors were telling him that he left the apartment his wife would be killed.

A witness in the apartment on South Salina Street says Kevin Digney was sleeping on the couch and probably smoking crack as he was trying to avoid police, and the court proceeding. But authorities tracked down the Ambrosia's owner and busted him. Cecile: One of the detectives said he looked a bit surprised that we had gotten there before he was able to follow through on this whole abduction thing.

Police say they don't remember the last time someone went to such lengths -- faking his own kidnapping to avoid a court appearance. Cecile: We don't have these very often at all where someone makes this up. And not very well I should add.

Now instead of facing one legal battle, Kevin Digney will be up against two, since he now has criminal charges against him. He was arrested on Thursday and charged with a misdemeanor: falsely reporting an incident. Kevin Digney was supposed to appear in court again Friday, but he missed that appearance as well.

Kevin Digney and his family weren't available to talk with us and managers at Ambrosia's didn't wish to comment.
