Classic Moving Company Rip-Off Scam! Will come to your home, estimate your cubic square footage of belongings (underestimating by a huge portion), give you your bid at $3.85 per sq. ft, then after loading truck, will inform you that you have twice as much as they thought.

They also arive in a rented truck (from Budget or Ryder), not their own trucks.

Then, they will insist on a CASH deposit for half of total (on top of the $700.00 deposit you have already given them). They will also take all day to load, so that by the time they are finished...it is dark outside and too late to make any other arrangements.

When they arrive at your destination (up to two days late), they will insist on CASH payment before unloading your belongings. If you don't have the cash, they will keep your belongings, threatening to auction them off.

King Movers has not responded to the Better Business Bureau

#2Author of original report

Wed, September 15, 2004

I filed a complaint against King Movers, Inc. to the California Better Business Bureau (of which they are a member) on August 26, 2004. As a member of the Better Business Bureau, they are obligated to respond to the complaint and to attempt to resolve any complaint issues. As of today, and after receiving 3 different notices from the Better Business Bureau of Los Angeles, King Movers, Inc. has not filed a response of any kind. I assume that this is because their DOT license has already been revoked.

King Movers had license revoked

#3Consumer Suggestion

Sat, September 11, 2004

Also, Haim Vaknin, I mean Mike Vaknin, you did not mention that your license was revoked on August 30th, a mere 5 months after receiving it! That does not sound like a good mover to me. Perhaps there was just not room for the license in that tiny office you call a MailBoxes Etc? Quit trying to make the customer out to be wrong. And quit trying to buy her off with your paltry $400. You should give her ALL of her money back, scammer! Cat, have you called your credit card company to dispute the charges yet? After all, you did not authorize any payments to King Taxi, did you?

King Movers rebuttal is ridiculous and a lie.

#4Author of original report

Fri, September 10, 2004

Mike is lying in his rebuttal. (1) I gave him the measurements of the 5 items in storage. (2) Of course I didn't measure the truck...how would I know how to do that? (3) I only paid him what he asked because he had my belongings on the truck and if I wanted it unloaded I had no choice. (4) The truck didn't arrive in Colorado 48 hours later....it was picked up on Thursday, August 12th and delivered in Colorado on Tuesday, August 17th. (5) This type of scam is well documented in the press and on the internet...check it out yourself (6) Mike called me and offered me $400.00 to close this case and I refused. (7) He didn't mention the "money laundering" through his limo company in his rebuttal, did he?

Good movers don't use cubic feet!

#5Consumer Suggestion

Fri, September 10, 2004

Mike Vaknin, CEO of King Movers, I completely believe Cat's story. Know why? Because REPUTABLE movers do not use cubic feet in the final estimation, or in determining the final bill. A REPUTABLE mover uses weight. They will look at the amount of stuff in the apartment, like you did, figure out the cubic feet, and THEN transfer the C.F. to weight. Then, during the move, the truck is weighed, following DOT regulations set up in Title 49, and that weight minus the weight of the truck empty prior to the move is used to determine the final bill. Then, on moving day, if the driver thinks there has been more stuff added (as you accuse Cat of), the driver can say "I won't take this load without writing a new estimate." IF the shipper refuses to re-write the estimate, the driver can just not load the stuff. If the driver does load the shipment, then the original estiamte is considered accurate and should be followed. When ANY mover uses cubic feet to determine the bill, it is just a huge red flag flashing: SCAMMER!!!! Cubic feet cannot be verified by any agency. Weight tickets will hold up in court. I'm sure when Cat calls in her complaint to 1-888-DOT-SAFT, they will tell her the same thing. It makes no difference that nothing was broken or the load was on time. You have scammed Ms. Cat.

King Movers, Inc. 19528 Ventura Blvd., Suite 537,Tarzana, CA 91356 Tel: (818) 674-7373, [email protected] 9 September 2004 To Whom It May Concern: I dispute the accusation of Cat Herrington from Aurora, CO. She claims that King Movers over charged her for the move when the truth is that she was completely aware of all the charges. Mrs. Herrington received an accurate estimate for $3.85 pre cube, which is a very reasonable price for direct delivery in 48 hours from Los Angeles, CA to Aurora, CO, approximately 1,200 miles. When I visited her house to give her the estimate, I could see around 800 cubic feet, I asked her if this is all? She replied that she god some more stuff in a storage close by, I requested from her to check the storage, so I'll be in a position to give a more accurate estimation but she said that this is not necessary because she knows what is in the storage and some other moving company gave her an estimate for 770 cubic feet total. At that point I explained Mrs. Herrington that I won't be able to give her an accurate estimation without seeing everything, having said that we will have to wait and see the what is the precise Cubic Feet. I made very clear to Mrs. Herrington and she accepted that what ever is the final Cubic Feet, this is what she will have to pay plus the packing materials. Mrs. Herrington accepted all the above. We start loaded the stuff in the storage first, there was about 400 cubic feet just in the storage, so when my team reach the house, they informed Mrs. Herrington that she is going to have over 1,000 cubic feet for sure. She called me at the office and told me that now my team claims that she will have over 1,000 cubic feet for sure. I told her that as we agreed earlier whatever cubic feet would be the total this is what she will have to pay. I even gave her an option to stop the job if she is not comfortable with this. She insisted that we continue with the move. At the very end, the total cubic feet were over 1,300 and as a good gesture I reduced it to 1,200 cubic feet especially for her. Mrs. Herrington insisted to check and measure the truck, which she did and was convinced that it is actually contain 1,300 cubic feet, and that is why she sign the contract and paid half of the bill right there and then and she wrote a check for $2,159 and eventually paid everything as agreed. I must say that King Movers did excellent job, nothing was broken or missing, everything went smooth and the goods reached the destination right on time. It is our believe that the customer comes first and we would never try and cheat our customers in any way form or shape. Thank you very much, CEO, King Movers, Inc.

A move quoted at $ 2,700.00, ended up costing a total of $5,018.00 all CASH!!!

Also, the original $700.00 deposit, was given to him by credit card and he charged it to his other company King Limos, Inc. Quite a scam, huh?
