I think what you bought was something that was 18kt gold over sterling silver or another metal.
Either you encountered a sales associate who was not knowledgeable or you did not ask the correct questions when you bought this piece.

I thought you had to be at least 16 before you got married, and that with parents permission. In the event that you are an adult, adults admit to their faults. You threw away the receipt so they cannot help you. They cannot help everyone that threw away their receipt. They need proof that you bought it. Kid it is called protecting their business from scam.
