Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

Kohls routinely offers "promo cards" usually $10 in value, with certain purchases during the promo period.

These $10 cards are good on future purchases.

The tricky part is if you use one of these cards, and then return something in the purchase that qualified for that card.

The TRICKIEST part is how you get completely RIPPED OFF if you use the promo card, but RETURN the item you bought with it (thus, the store is now back to original standing, no free money given to you)...Kohl's STILL keeps $10 from the refund if you return something from the original purchase!

Once again, if you RETURN the item you used the $10 gift card on...they STILL keep $10 of your CASH or CREDIT CARD money when you later return part of the original purchase, even though they have now not lost any money because they no longer gave you $10 gift you returned that item! Example: You buy $500 worth of clothing, and get a $10 gift card as a bonus. You use that $10 gift card to buy a $16 item, so you are charged only $6. You find you don't need the $16 item, so you return it and receive a refund for $6 (they now have their free $10 back). Later you discover one of the shirts from the original purchase doesn't fit. You return it, but instead of $24 back, you only get a $14 credit to your credit card..."because you got the $10 gift card with purchase"...WHAT?!?! YOU GOT THAT MONEY BACK when I returned the $16 widget!!!

So, they essentially have figured out a way to FORCE you to turn cash or credit card money into store credit.

Unethical...yes. Illegal...you tell me. (Seriously, I want to know!)

I think it is the software bug that should not act that way - the deduct coupon/gift card value can be taken out from only one returned item. This will also reflect their accounting & taxes, but they will find a way to convert it to miscellaneous revenues.

Anyway, you should contact their corporation. You need to have all receipts and whatever returned receipts you have. Make a copy (scan it to make digital copies is the best), and send them a letter plus your evidence (receipts). You need to push this to them because this bug is making them illegal revenues. They could be sued for this bug in their software if it can be proven.

The only person(s) who benefit from a Class Action suit is the ATTORNEY(s).  Suck it up and grow up. Who ever told you life was fair lied to you.
