Dear Sir;

I would like to file a formal complaint against Leather Expo, Inc. located at Crofton Centre, Rt 3 North 424, Crofton Maryland, telephone 410 721-6113.

My husband and I recently moved to this area from Misawa, Japan and are stationed at Andrews AFB. On 25 November 2006 we purchased a four piece leather sectional couch from Leather Expo Inc. After the couch was delivered on 8 Dec 06, we realized that it was too big because the rest of our furniture had arrived from Japan. Within 4 days of delivery, we went back to the company and spoke with Mr. Howard Magovich, the store owner, or general manager.

We explained to him our dilemma and wanted to return these couches. Mr. Magovich immediately got an attitude with us and the situation escalated from there. Mr. Magovich was screaming at us saying things like Who do you think you are someone special? and totally humiliated my husband and me over trying to return these couches. My husband was trying to talk to Mr. Magovich in a calm voice and professional manner despite the way Mr. Magovich was acting, but Mr. Magovich continued to humiliate and mock us.

Not only did he scream at my husband for wanting to return these couches, he was very reluctant on returning our money. When we asked why he was charging us $300.00 for delivery fees even though the correct couches were not delivered in the first place, all we got was more of an attitude. We ended up paying $300.00 for delivery charges to return items that wouldn't fit our needs. Before we went into the Leather Expo, we had every intention on purchasing smaller couches, but after that scene, we didn't want anything else from that place. This man was rude, demeaning, and totally unprofessional as a customer service representative for this company, and I feel that we should have the right to return something without having to go through this type of humiliation from the place of purchase. Especially since the purchase order did not state that all sales final, or no returns.

I just find it amazing that people like this stay in business and feel that the $300.00 delivery charge to pick up these couches is totally unreasonable.

There was no talking to this man and for the sake of tempers flaring any further; I decided to send my complaint to the Better Business Bureau in hopes of getting this resolved in a professional mannerism.

If there is something that could be done, I would appreciate a call back or a letter. I just feel that we have been ripped off by this company, and people don't deserve to be treated this way. Thank you for your time regarding this matter

As a retailer based in Florida with a similar name, we are responding to inquiries as to whether or not we are a related entity to the company listed on this complaint.  Very simply, we are not.  The retailer in this complaint seems to be a store in Maryland that according to state of MD records, went out of business in 2009.  

Records from the Maryland BBB reflect the same informations which can be seen below.

According to information in the BBB files, it appears that the company is no longer in business. The phone numbers the BBB had for this company are disconnected, and directory assistance does not have a listing for this company. This is in response to a complaint filed by Melissa in Bowie Maryland in regards to a $ 300.00 delivery fee at Leather Expo in Crofton, Md. Now really Melissa, why didn't you tell the real truth. The fact of that matter is that we did send out 2 incorrect pieces to their sectional which was scheduled to be picked up and exchanged within a reasonable time. They stormed in our store and exclaimed that their furniture that they assumed was lost by the Military had arrived from Japan and they no longer wanted the sectional and that we should eat all fees. WRONG! We told them that the delivery is on them but we waved the 25 % restocking fee which is a normal process in most furniture stores, there are actualy people that are payed to deliver and restock. This is by no means a FREE process. Because they were young and in the Military, not only did we give them an advertised promo price we refunded their money and picked up the furniture. Their old furniture came and they just didn't want the sectional any longer. They took advantage of us not the other way around. SHAME ON YOU MELISSA. My husband was not confrontational. I was right here and your husband was the one with the temper and the one who was being unreasonable. If you recall, you had to calm your husband down. There are always 2 sides to every story. The right side. and your side the wrong side. We feel we did the right thing as we value ALL our customers. Our record is unblemished with the Better Business Bureau as our customer service is impeccable! The truth be known to all consumers we are family owned and operated. We are HONEST business people running an honest business.
