I purchased a TH400 transmission for Lee's Speed Shop at a swap meet at Maple Groove RaceWay. WhenI installed the trans into my race car it would not grab a gear to be able to move under its own power. I know immediately that the pump was bad. I called Lee, removed trans from my car and drove over 2 hours to have it replaced.

When Lee looked at hte pump he stated that it was burnt up..since the car has not been driven since 2002 it meant he sold me a trans with a beat pump init and then admitted it to me. He did replace the pump with a new reman one, but only after trying to make it look like I did the damage.

The next morning I reinstalled the trans, and now that the pump was working correctly and producing pressure as it should I noticed the casing od the trans had I crack init, which was leaking all my tranny fluid (royal purple$$$) all over the floor. I called again and he told me to replace the seals (which he had just done the day before) The trans was still leaking.

Yesterday I called him to replace the trans case, and he told me that he was tired of the problems with this trans anfd the only thing he would do for me is give me a new case, but I would have to do all the work to switch everything over. After talking to him for about an hour about how this is his responsblity, we decided that he wpuld give me the money back for the trans so that I could go buy a new one before my Dyno Appointment this Wensday.

About 5 minutes later his wife called back and state to me that they will not refund the $1,200.00, and will do nothing to make this situation right. If I had known that Lee's Speed Shop was nothing more then a back yard mechanic that does not stand by his word, I would have never purchased this trans from him...BeWare!!!! Hopefully this report will help you from knowing how this guy is and not to buy anything from him.

Joe bought a TH-400 transmission from us and installed it himself more than a year after he purchased it. He called and asked if I remembered him, which I did. When he brought the transmission in, it had a disfunctional pump. I rebuild or replace the pump every time I rebuild a transmission, so when it left the shop the pump was good. I replaced the pump with a remanufactured one, even though the transmission was no longer covered by warranty, and the pump could have gone bad just from sitting for so long.

The transmission did not have a crack in the case when I sold it, or I wouldn't have sold it. If it had a crack, it happened either when he drove away with it, or when he installed it.

At that point in time he was a reputable automotive repair man and he took me to the Better Business Bureau, who sided with me.

We do our best to be honest and fair to the customer, but unfortunately it's a fact of life in this business that we regularly get blamed for problems that were not caused by us.
