I got a flatover the wekend and deceide on monday to go get my tire fixed. I had blown out the tire so I had to buy a new one. The spare tire however was a regular size tire with a volkswagon rim on it. It was not a donut.

So I went in and had the tire replaced, thinking that they would give me back my spare tire. So I didn't bother to look in the trunk, I just assumed them being a company like that I wouldn't need to look to see what they put in there. So I left.

Six months later I had to get into the trunk because something was making a noise and had to look at the spare. When I got in there was no volkswagom rimed tire in there. Instead there was a full size tire with a ugly black rim on it.

I then called the Volkswagon people to see how much a rim was thinking if it wasn't to much I would just buy one. I come to find out the rim I had on there was $250.00 dollars.

At this point I call the company and express what is going on. To my surprise the man on the phone told me I was confused and didn't know what I was talking. That he had changed many tires on the Beetles and they didn't come with a rim like that.

I couldn't believe he was trying to tell me I was confused and basicly stupid and didn't know what I was talking about. Mr. Crum (He had claimed to be the manager of the store but turned out not to be) then went on to argue with me going back and forth saying noone at his store would do that and I said well it did, and then he would say no it didn't.

We went back and forth for about 10 minutes. Then I asked for a corporate number. I called the office and was given to customer service. I explain my problem and they said they would get back to me.

No one got back to me that day so I called backed the next day. The person who had helped me was gone for the weekend and wouldn't be back till Monday (it was Wed.). I thought this is unbelieveable customer service.

The lady at the front desk then gave me to somebody else. he then went on to take care of the problem. He called me a few hours later and said Sorry we can't help you, if you can't prove it we can't do anything for you.

I thought how am i suppose to prove it?? The rim is gone and there's nothing you can do for me. So, I am out $250.00 dollars. I will never go back to Les Swab an I tell everyone about this story!

I have been using this company for over 20 years. I wouldn't think of taking my car anywhere else. While a mistake had been made (I have never heard of a car company that puts a spare on a $250 rim, but I will give you the benfit of the doubt...There are some things that could have been done to avoid this in the first place. 1. I never sit inside and eat free popcorn while work is being done on my car.. I always watch. 2. You should check your spare regularly to make sure there is air in it... I do it every time I change my oil. You don;t want to be stuck with a flat spare. 3. ANY time that you have work done on your car, anywhere... always have them show you the screwed up part.. be involved! Really, how can you expect, that if they were at fault, they would still have the wheel rim around 6 months later? Can you imagine how many people would call up and claim something like that just to get $250 bucks? I myself pull up with a flat, they fix it and I drive away. I have never done paperwork at a Les Schwab. Good luck, but as upset as you are on this one... you are as much at fault as the tire company.
