I demoed Lexis Nexis Advance which was supposed to be a research tool for US tax professionals. I was skeptical as I have know LexisNexis for their overall legal research tools for lawyers, but never found it useful for tax work. The person who demoed appeared knowledgeable and showed me where I could find everything that I needed and how I could search for it.
So I purchased the product Lexis Advance.
After trying to use it twice, I quickly realized it was not as advertised. Either the material I was searching for could not be found OR it cost EXTRA! I was clear the entire time, that I needed information related to Individual Income Taxes (Federal and state). I was also clear that I wanted access to third party analysis as I already have access to the code, regulations, etc...
I spoke with my account rep, who tried finding the documents I was seeking, and he was also not able to find most of them. He found one which he forwarded to me.
I decided within 2 weeks to cancel as the tool was completely useless. The sales person indicated that I could not cancel as I was locked in for a full year. I went back and forth with him, but he would not budge. So I paid $200 a month for a year for a completely useless tool!
I was clear that I did not want any autorenewal, and he indicated he would note it in my account. Guess what! It auto renewed! I was obligated through Oct 15, 2017, but kept getting invoices and warnings for November 2017. I even got collection warnings. I called Lexis about 6 different times. The support people are useless and have no power. They cancelled my account, but could not reverse November and half of October. They indicated I had to call the original sales person, which I did (and wrote twice), but never received a response.
I have now not heard anything for 2 months. I have assumed November is closed out, but still have not recieved a refund for the half month of October...Corp America wins again....
