You are not alone - in my case it was a GE appliance. I had the same experience at the Home Depot store in Fairfield, California a couple of years ago. Home Depot and GE are dumping damaged appliances on consumers, knowing in advance that there are issues prior to delivery.
I am guessing the damage you had is from home depot's delivery. GE basically gave me the same response that LG gave you.
Years on, I am still stuck with a severely damaged GE dryer that wobbles on the floor and a promise note from Home Depot's Fly-By-Night appliance delivery company for a $150 reimbursement which of course was a lie.
