I was on an online dating website and sent an email to one of the members just in the hopes that this person would respond and perhaps develop a relationship. (My first mistake was probably holding any hope to begin with.)

"Her" profile was very nicely written and a couple attractive photos were posted to "her" profile.

About a week later I received a response and she invited me to meet her on Skype. After only just a few meetings "she" confessed her love for me. This would probably have been a red flag for most people, but;

- I was new to online dating,

- the website seemed reputable and I had been communicating with some women on there already

- I suppose I was blinded by my own hopes and aspirations!

Several weeks passed and this alluring siren lulled me into believing "she" was kind, sincere, etc..  In the beginning "she" was unable to talk because "she" left her mic at work. The internet connection was so poor that there were frequent disconnections between us. But in time we got a couple chances to talk, and the female voice on the other end of the line spoke English well enough to have a conversation.

What I was blind to, was that there were many times I tried to talk to "her" and she would answer my call, but not talk... I could hear background noise but not "her" voice, sometimes a female voice would say "Hello?" in this really sweet accent. It was as if the scammer was sometimes without his/her voice actor or something.

In the end, I lost a good amount of money to buy her a visa..  It all seems so obvious now, but I had no idea what was going on until it hit me.
