what we are on about is the fact that we got scammed. sodwana is one of the most loveliest places i know. mabaso lodge is not up to standard and if we complained all the time, i am sure we would have complained about the other lodge we went to. we did not complain and only had compliments. my advise is to close that dump down!

I have no idea what peolple are on about. We enjoyed our December stay at Mabaso lodge. We made the most of our stay by visiting all the great beaches around. Kosi Bay, Black rock, 9Mile, Lake sibaya and Sodwana. Thanks Johan, Tamy and Chantelle for being such great hosts. We enjoyed every moment at Mabaso Lodge. We never experienced any problems whatsoever. Had water all the time. No water leaks, clean swimming pool etc. Sodwana, St Lucia is not for the faint harted. This is for people with a zest for live. People who enjoy the outdoor live, bon fires and great converstions etc. There is much to see around mabaso Lodge. My family and I was priviledged enough to visit a private gave reserve nearby where we viewed not only the big 5 but a huge amount of other wild animals not seen in most game reserves in SA. For the ones that just whant to be lazy and get a good tan, you can go To Sodwana bay beach. I higly recommend Mabaso Lodge to everyone I meet and will be going there again this December. People need to relax and enjoy live. If you complain about Mabaso Lodge you would most probably complain no matter where you go.

Dear Mr Sodwana visitor.
If I can remember clearly, there were three families at that time we were there and if I can remember clearly you were the guests blasting your music on a Sunday morning at 5 in the morning!!
To put everything into perspective and to correct the above mentioned author. I do not own a double cab vehicle and I was in Piet Retief when the call was made, it could be that you saw our friends, because they stayed behind and looked for alternative accommodation, which they did found and then contacted us, but your statement is laughable!
We did decline the "get together" as we were on our way home, but as mentioned our friends came across the lodge down the road.
As for the cat that was driven over, it was another sorry excuse to not pay our money back. There is no proof that we drove over the cat, as far as I am concerned the guests with the blue Ranger could have done this hidious crime!!
The fact is that we had NO water for most of the morning. Then we had no hot water at all and when we confronted the owner and manager, their response was terrible. There were other complaints as well that was answered with excuses and excuses.
Both of our units leaked so heavily that the beds were drenched. Johan and his dedicated family then gave us new mattresses but these mattresses were in worse shape than what we had!!
The units weren't even cleaned before we arrived, because we couldn't even store our food in the fridges. That was the level of filth!!
Get your facts straight Mr Author and stop stalking other guests!! You are welcome to make your booking at this newly found lodge, but as for my family and friends, we will NEVER go back there!
PS : When someone blasts their car radio at 5 in the morning on a Sunday, then your credibility flies out the window!
This "lodge" is one of the worst places I have ever been to and would keep on warning the public to NOT go there.

Sjoe, some people can pull things out of perspective! Compliments to Mabaso Lodge for 2012 and I just want to take this opportunity to thank the owners of Mabaso Lodge and staff for all the friendly service. We visited Mabaso Lodge December 2010 and Easter 2011 and will be back again.
Me and my family visited Mabaso Lodge from 10 December 2010 to 2 January 2011 (the same time as the person complaining) and NEVER encountered the problems they had. The one night there was severe thunderstorm, so the morning there was no water but only for about 45 minutes.
No person can be held responsible for what nature causes. Ive asked the owner about the water because we wanted to take a shower so he said they are busy installing new pressure pumps for the borehole water feed because the lightning has struck the old one and will be ready in an hour.
About 45 minutes later there was strong borehole water again and the owner apologised for all the inconvienance. We stayed at many places in Sodwana before and always had to buy drinking water because the other places make use of municipal water, at Mabaso Lodge we drink out of the tap the water is fresh from the ground, we cant even do that in Gauteng!!!
Some of my friends were also in Sodwana the same time and where they were staying there was no water for 3 DAYS they came to visit us at Mabaso Lodge to have a shower. As I said we never encountered any problems the person complaining is exagurating things.
The day that the persons complaining left after a couple of nights alreadystayed at the lodge , Ive asked Chantelle (who is 18 and not a minor and under age like the person complaining posted in her complaint, we were at her 18th birthday easter 2011) were they are going because the owner invited all the guests to a braai that night,so she said they are going home to PTA.
Home Pretoria not USA as she/he claiming they are from that is false. We went to Spar to get some vegies for a salad for the braai and saw them leaving with 2 dbl cab bakkies and went to another lodge just down the road, we also saw them the next day passing us on the road in Sodwana.
At the braai that evening Ive asked the owner if he knew that the people that left went to another lodge just down the road, so he said no they told him they are going home to Pretoria and Chantelle just phoned them because they drove over one of her cats when they left and the ladys husband said they are in Piet Retief now!? Why are they lying?
We enjoy Mabaso Lodge every time we visit and will go back again and again. Weve stayed at other places in Sodwana before and Mabaso Lodge is by far the best they always provide excellent and friendly service and are always there to help with anything no matter what time of the night.
The security is also very good at Mabaso Lodge I cant recall any problems with security like theft and people making any problems in the camp. We really feel safe and have a piece of mind when we are at Mabaso Lodge. Mabaso Lodge is doing a great job with the security.
We enjoyed the lamb spitbraais we had on new years eve and easter, the owners and staff of Mabaso Lodge spoiled us with all the yummie food they prepared for for all the guests of the lodge. We made very good friends with the other guests in the lodge and are still in contact with t
We also met a family from Germany at Mabaso Lodge they told me they are visiting Mabaso lodge every year when they are in SA. They also told me they never book accommodation at Mabaso Lodge because the owner is nice with them and always make a plan for them when they arrive.
My opinion is just that you know if you book accommodation you sign a letter that state all of the rules and one of the rules is that accommodation being cancelled by guests are not refundable, we also signed a document like that every time we make a booking and respect their rules.
Ok, I think Ive said enough we know the truth but, Mabaso Lodge dont be worried about false stories being spread on the internet, the guests that were there in 2010 will eventually read all the untrue posts and put two and two toghether to see that the person complaining just copied and pasted her complaint story on different sites.
Again thank you very much Mabaso Lodge and staff for the friendly service from trips to Tembe Elephant Park where we saw so many elephants we were amazed to bring and braai nights around the fire. Best service with guests we are greatfull!
Keep up the good team work Ive never seen a family of 4 people (Johan and his wife and two daughters) working so good togheter and managing everything on their own, well done guys!! Get the spitbraai ready we are coming again soon!
