Back on May 16 2013 my wife recived a phone call saying she had won a watch and to recive the watch she needed to subscribe to 3 magazine subscriptions at a low cost. She was in the market for the magazines because she runs a salon and would add reading material. What she thought they were offering at that time was these magazines for $57.50 a year which does sound like a very good deal. They told her there are 5 payments of $11.50 equaling $57.50. She accepted and agreed to the terms over the phone.

Well October 30 2013 I find 2 invoices on our desk stating past due balance owing from Magazine Publishers Service Canada. The letters say the credit card did not go through and they are wanting paid via chq or money order immediaitly. After a lenghtly conversation with my wife I got the story she had gave her credit card over the phone. needless to say I was not happy with her but we make mistakes. After we went through her MC bills it showed they had been getting money just fine but also alot more then the $11.50 that was to be broke down over 5 payments.

First payment came out June 26th 2013 for $69.90 followed by July $68.72, August $68.42, Sept $68.65, and then now October $57.50 with now a second charge of $120.72. The invoices on our desk are asking for $55.20 and $91.55. I instantly contacted our police and reported this scam. My wife has not seen a magazine either and it has been 26 weeks. The police told to cancel the credit card instantly which we were doing anyways. The advised to contact Anti-fraud of Canada which we did also. They said we were hit with deceiving deseptive telemarketing which is illeagl.

We were advised to cancel credit card and try to contact this company and tell them they are through. I followed up and called MPS after I talked to Anti-Fraud. When i got through I told them as of today we were canceling the subscription. Her tone went from nice to nasty just like that. She began telling me my wife agreed to the terms and we are locked in for 5 years. She then went on and said oh to boot she agreed to a second contract at a higher rate, you are not getting out of it ever. getting angry i asked her what are these terms, what did my wife agree to??

Any normal human being would not agree to $57.50 a month for 5 years ever! She came back with it is recorded he agreeing to the terms. I demanded to hear this recording. She said you are going to hear it and by that i agree to the terms also "F you" i thought but I wanted to hear it. She then said it will take a bit because she was the only one that works there. HA a big so called company and your the only one that works there. She came back on the phone and begane to play this recording, thing was I was ready to record it as well.

After she cut it off just before my wife was ready to ask questions she said there it is a legal contract and you are screwed. You are not getting out of this ever. I told her they were terminated as of then and i will fight it if came to court and Im not scared to do it. She yelled at me and said good luck your not getting out and hung up on me. After that I listened to the recording 20+ times slowing it down and backing it up over and over. I hear my wife agreeing to 5 payments of $11.50 totaling $57.50 with the lady saying yes your right.

She then says just to verify again i just need to hear you say yes again to this great offer and say yes to the 5 x $11.50 equaling $57.50 (where its then muffled and quick) 12 times annualy. I got you you F@$#@$ after hearing that. Anyways MC will be renbursing the charges, and we have been advised to just let the invoices pile up and calls to come in. If it goes to collections Im taking it to court I will not back down! To date no Magazines have ever came and my wifes card has been changed. If and if ever they show up, I am contacting the magazine themselves to report MPS to them. I will try to cancel the subscriptions directly through them.
