I have used it for about two years and agree it was hard to get it to work properly in the beginning. It depends on what computer you are using it on. I switched computers and it is crystal clear and I can call anywhere in North America for $30 bucks a year, not a month (and no long distance charges). I still have my cell phone that I give to friends but I don't receive calls because I'm in Canada and the number is listed as Troy, Michigan where my sister lives and she received it for me and sent it to Toronto. Sometimes you have to use a different USB port but it does work and you might occasionally get a blip in the line. But for $30 bucks a year I'll put up with it. They have it Toronto now with local area codes but I'm happy to use it whenever I'm home. No airtime charges and free to call anywhere in the USA or Canada. I couldn't believe it either but it must be used on a fast computer. And I don't work for or have anything to do with the company. We're getting ripped off by all these telephone companies big time.

I have not had ANY issues with the Magic Jack. I am amazed at how well it works!
I "fired" my phone company and decided to go wireless. After the kids started eating up minutes, I went to Office Depot and bought this thing called "Magic Jack". Installation was fine.
Yes, the computer will slow down over time. You are going to have to empty your cache often and defrag....especially if you have an older computer. A small price to pay.
Amazed at the sound quality. I didn't expect a dial tone and other features for such a low price.
You get what you pay for. In this case, I'm getting a lot more than I paid for.

Sorry if the Magic Jack didn't work for you. You probably just need someone who knows what they are doing set it up for you. I know a number of people who have the product and when I speak with them while they are using the MJ I find it works very well. Perfect, I would say.
Yes there are limitations and you should weigh them against the $40 investment. I know that is a lot of money for some people so BE CAREFUL. Others throw that away on a hand of Black Jack. But come on, do you really expect to have a customer support person field calls from customers with problems? You can't hardly get the IRS to take your call and you pay them a hell of a lot more than $40 (assuming you are a tax payer).
For us, we dropped the land line 4 years ago when we became a 4 cell phone family. Having the MJ at home helps us manage the 1,500 Anytime minute limit. A hundred overtime minutes with your cell phone company will pay for your MJ.
If you ever meet a commercial airline pilot who flys internationally, ask them how they like their Magic Jack.

If you are having voice quality issues all you need to do is buy a USB port with an adapter. It takes lots of energy from the computer to make a call so when you have a powered usb you don't have to worry about the computers usage. You can buy one for under 7 bucks at EFORCITY.com

Hi, Magic Jack requires a kick-a*s ROUTER. Try another ROUTER. I had problems also when I replaced the router, it worked GREAT.

I purchased my magic jack about 6 months ago and I love it. Sure I have some bad moments with it but it was something that their upgrade fixed. My mother also has it and we had to not only upgrade the magic jack but we had to upgrade her computer because it was too slow. She was running a celeron 2.53 with 512 memory and we upgraded it to a Pentium 4 with 2g of memory. Works like a charm now. Try upgrading the magicjack and maybe your computer. Just because you don't have any problems running the internet doesn't mean that it is fast enough to run magicjack. Vonage is a more sophisticated company and can do a lot of work arounds. Just though I would give you some suggestions. I love not getting a phone bill every month especially since I have been laid off from my job.
