Manhattan Family Court judge has created a history of turning children over to the custody of a dangerous parent, and furthermore, punishing protective mothers.

Gerard Joseph Murray, retired detective, sexually abused his daughter, (he is listed on the State's Central Register as to sexually abusing his daughter [substantiated]).

Helen Sturm knew Murray from the time in which she was working as a prosecutor in the DA's Office, and later employed as a Criminal Court judge. She kept the child incarcerated in the foster no care system for 5 years in order for the statute of limitations on sex abuse to run its course. Then, devoid any custody trial, she turned the child over to the custody of Murray and sentenced the mother to 3 years in Riker's Island for trying to rescue her child.

Jose Flete has a documented history of child abuse and of battering his child's mother to the degree of her being hospitalized for 4 days. Jose Flete is employed as a case manager for the Administration For Children's Services, [ACS]. ACS works with the family court. Knowing about Jose Flete's egregious history of abuse, and the posing of his son in the nude and photographing such, they wanted their 'friend' to have custody, so Helen Sturm ignored the profound evidence against Flete, and turned the child over to the custody of the abuser.

There are he/says, she/says cases whereby it's difficult to determine who is telling the truth. However, in these 2 cases, the evidence is clear, yet Helen Sturm has no problem endangering the welfare of children.

Dyandria, I've read your report, and while my recent case before Judge Helen C. Sturm involved a completely different set of issues and circumstances, I wholeheartedly share your anger and frustration.

Let me be clear that it is not because of Judge Sturm's final decision in my particular case that I am so indignant. It is rather her severe and repeated unprofessionalism, her blatant disrespect toward the parties, and her irreverent (almost childish) sarcasm over the course of three different hearings that left me feeling so embittered, unheard, even victimized in her courtroom.

She consistently rushed through three hearings, proving each time to be woefully fragmentary and superficial in her fact-finding efforts and altogether making a corrupt mockery of the justice system that she as a judge had once promised to champion.
