Marcella DeVincent, or Marcella Hilton-DeVincent tried to pull an adoption scam with several women in our neighborhood including my friend.
Marcella would befriend older, professional women in this suburb right outside of Chicago. She would act as if she wanted mentorship from one of us. She was very savvy about politics and culture -- until three weeks into the time you started to get to know her.
She would act as if she could not take care of her baby, Hailey Pendergast. She made up a story about the little girl's father being abusive and that was why she was on her own. The story changed from her being once married to this guy to never having been married to this guy.
Marcella specifically tries to seek out women who have tried to adopt but could not so that when she starts to make the arrangements for what is more or less, an illegal adoption, they cannot complain to police. She gets the women wrapped up her child -- who is wonderful -- so that they become attached and don't want to back out when they learn about Marcella's cocaine use and very wild lifestyle. We eventually found out she had attacked two people in her apartment building and two separate men.
Evidently, Marcella also does this to gay men who are trying to adopt.
Worst of all, Marcella has police officer boyfriends or sex partners who protect her as well as co-workers in the Triton College office of financial aid where she attends school. She had one of the police officers from Triton rough up the husband of a friend of mine to keep him from going to police.

We talked to many people who have been scammed in various ways by this woman but the police seem to do nothing.
Also, keep her away from your husband! She has boyfriends who give her money and they are usually businessmen from out of town.
