Marg Hayre Costly lesson learned when booking a condo as advertised on the web. Orlando, Florida
We booked a vacation to Daytona Beach after much searching on the web and decided on one that was advertised as being extremely clean as the owners cleaned it themselves.( Re:vacationhomerentals daytona beach 35445 ).
We booked it for the period of Jan 3rd. to Feb 5th. paid $ 259.38 by cheque as a deposit and a balance of $ 1400.00 upon arrival was paid in cash.Big mistake.
The initial impression of the condo was dissapointing,however we decided that we could make the best of it. The next day we could see how bad it was ,personal things pushed under the bed (toilet seat,dirty dust mop etc.) towels,dish cloths kept under the vanity with the cleaning supplies, used bar soap, the list goes on,ceiling fans loaded with dust.
We called the owner the next morning to inform her that we would not be staying after telling her what the problems were. She intially responded that we would get a refund but then said that she would come over the next evening and clean it to our satisfaction.Two of them showed up with rags and a bucket and they will clean, but we will not get our money back. I offered to pay for the two nights as well as the deposit ($500.00) she refused, and we did not want to wait for cleaning that was to be done before we arrived. As a result we did not want to argue any more and left.
Our holiday in Florida was not off to a good start, but we did find a clean Motel on the beach down the road. It would be ideal if someone could check things out beforehand.
