I was in a car accident with my van, I was taken to the hospital by ambulance and the police had my van towed, it was still drivable. I sustained injuries including a lacerated ankle and a sprained ankle, a concusion, and whip-lash. I called the body shop that had my van and talked to a man who said that they would bill my auto insurance for the ammount, which was very overcharged by the way, $88 to tow it 1 mile, plus $20 a day to store it in their lot. When I took a bus from the hospial to pick up my van, I got there and they refused to release it stating they never told me they would bill insurance, they said they only take cash. I called my insurance company to see if they could help, the insurance got on the phone with them and said they would send a payment immediately and to release my van, and the body shop refused to accept payment from my insurance. I was stuck there on crutches too far from home to walk and am new to the town and didn't know anyone to call to come get me. While I was there waiting they called me names, made fun of me on my crutches laughing at my situation saying I was a stupid (w)itch, they used a different word. I eventually called the police and told them the situation and that I felt unsafe and harassed and the police came and picked me up and brought me home. I would tell anyone even thinking of doing business with them or if you are in an accident, do not have your vehichle towed and taken to their shop, you will be harassed and humiliated like I was.

A trick I picked up from my bank is to require all check writers to place their right thumbprint on the check as you inform them that kiting checks is a felony. Since I started doing it I haven't received one rubber check. The ones that act insulted are the ones that suddenly decide they either have cash or ask to swing by a teller machine.

It's true we did tow this womens vehicle, and the bill was $88.00. Are standard fees are $50.00 for the towing vehicle, $35.00 for a hook up fee and $3.00 a mile. Which her vehicle was towed about a mile. The vehicle had some minor front end damage, and was leaking antifreeze fluid. This women was take to the hospital. This women did call my shop and talked to my tow operator and wanted him to drive her vehicle to the hospital and pick her up. He informed her that we would not do this do to the fact the vehicle was involved in an accident and was leaking antifreeze. She informed him that it had been leaking and was ok to drive. He informed her that we would not and could not drive her vehicle to pick her up for the simple fact if something where to happen she could hold us laible for damages that might occur. She asked if we could come and pick her up. He informed her that we were to busy that day to do so. In the past we have supplied some rides to some people. This women got a ride in a bus to our shop. When she arrived at the shop she was walking on crouches. She said she was here to pick up her van. The tow operator informed her of the cost and she got a little upset. She asked if we could bill her insurance company. He informed her that our policy was not to bill insurance companys, and if we did the vehicle would not be released until payment was received. So she decided to write a check, which was from a out of town bank. Again a business policy to call the bank that issued the check and make sure it is good. Well guess what there were no funds in her checking account. Now what should any reasonable business man do. Does this women seem trustworthy to you, should I beleive anything she tells me from this point on. I did allow her to use my phone to make several long distance phone calls to her mother and husband, and also had one of my employees talk to both of them. He informed them what had happened and what she had tried to do with the check, her husband informed us that she knew that there was no money in the checking account. Well strike two. They also didn't seem to consirned about driving to pick her up. Well I guess I am getting a little long winded but and no time did anyone call her names or make fun of her. Ask yourself how far would you help out someone that tried to stiff you on a bill. We did offer to drive he somewhere in Marquette but she decided she wasn't going anywhere until we released her van. It was getting close to closing time so I called the police to see if they could give her a ride somewhere seeing how she wasn't leaving and her family wasn't coming to get her. A sheriff deputy and a state police trooper showed up and the trooper gave her a ride home. A week later her van was still sitting here, when her insurance company called and we towed it to a body shop. I would say this women was a little upset that she didn't get to pull a fast one on us with her bouncing check and felt like lashing out at us. Happy to have variety on my life.
