 Mastercard card database provides Merchants with updated credit card and debit card numbers. This data base which is hosted and owned by Mastercard allows Merchants to access changes of addresses, phone numbers and debit/credit card information. This also allows merchants to automatically debit your bank account for fee they believe are owned to them as long as they had at one point and time your debit/credit card number. Mastercard does not verify that the merchant has cause to have the updated card number or even a valid account. Here is my personal account with this such problem. I had canceled services with two large companies (ATT & Directv) and moved. I was never on reoccurring billing, so never thought there would be an issue after paying my final bill. Turned out that ATT continued to bill and then debited my account, as did directv. Both companies obtained my current address, phone number and all of my card details through the Mastercard merchant Database. We as consumers have no say if we want our information to be entered into this database, so what gives Mastercard the right to allow any company willing to pay for access the right to see what my address or bank information is?
