Beware!!!Beware!!!!  this is a community alert. Mastercraft Exteriors is from out of town. They took my check over three months ago. have not returned phone calls and have not repaired my house. I see my neighbors being done by local contractors and I was lied to. They told me they were local but it turns out they are from Illinois. They are crooks and lairs. I see from all the lawsuits against the owner Richard Spanton and the brother(vice president) Mathew Spanton that i made a horrible choice...I just want it to be know there is another lawsuit coming. I contracted with them to replace my roof and gutters. I gave them my insurance check. They were to send it to my mortgage company to have them process the check since my insurance company listed their name on it...After three weeks and no calls or return calls i started to get worried. I called my mortgage company to see if they have received the check and I was told no check has arrived. I called my insurance company to see if I could get a new check cut and the old one canceled and I was told it was cashed...What....they endorsed the mortgage check not the insurance company...I have called the attorney general and am pressing charges for check theft...I have since hired a new company to do the repairs and have to pay now a good portion out of my pocket since I can not get a call back from mastercraft exteriors..I want my money back....Please stay far way from this company..don't let them take you like they got my family..Do research on this company and you will find they entire family is a bunch of crooks..lawsuits are against them all. I agree there name should be mastercrap not mastercraft...

The crude and vulgar response to the consumer's experience with Mastercraft definitely has peaked my curiousity.  This type of response is typical of someone who is very closely connected to the issue.  As a homeowner, although I would be upset if someone was talking poorly about a contractor I had used with success, I would fly off the handle as if I had all the answers.  Mastercraft has done business under the name Storm Solutions and Madcity Homes. There may be others but I haven't had time to research them yet.  Always research your contractors if possible and keep in mind that an A+ rating doesn't neccessarily equate to A+ service as evidenced by the original report's testimony.

We've been trying to get them to fix the work they did on our house for almost 7 years without success... Beware, they do not return phone calls after your check clears.

Here's what we found out from the secretary of the state's office in Ohio

This is relevant as the Spanton family owns Mastercraft Exteriors...

RSJR inc., was filed as a form corporation in Ohio in June 3rd 2003. The paperwork indicates they were operating out of the state of Delaware as a business that was established April 12 2000. The certificate lists the home address in Beloit, Wisconsin. The paperwork was signed by Richard W Spanton, Jr. and it was notarized in Illinois. (Charter number 1392154) The charter was revoked in February of 2007 for not paying taxes!!

Peak Exteriors was registered as a trade name under RSJR, inc. at the same time (06/03/2003)! The paperwork was also signed by Richard W Spanton, Jr. (Charter number 1392155) This charter was revoked in June of 2008.

Mastercraft Exteriors of Ohio filed as a domestic corporation in May 2008. Richard W Spanton, Jr. is listed as the president and signed all of the paperwork work. As of June 2011, the company is ACTIVE. (Charter number 1769366)

All three charters are signed by Richard W Spanton Jr. which leads me to believe they are storm chasers. Additionally, our sales rep was Mark Spanton and he is listed as a current employee on their website at  http://www.mastercraft-ext.com/mastercraft-family.html.

I have been a resident of the madison area for over 25 years and until April of this year I have never seen a Mastercraft Exteriors truck. Now I see 6-8 everyday. So some of my questions are as follows How does a company claim to be local but have not exicsted in the prior years and then I see that they say they are from a small town in everty state. Why is it that in 2006 the owner of Mastercraft Exteriors came into our city DBA Storm Solutions Leasing inc. Then proceeded to start up Mad City Roofing Storm Division inc. went delinquent in 2008 and then Administrative Dissolution in 2010. All of this is avalible to the public at https://www.wdfi.org/apps/CorpSearch/Search.aspx? Now back to the question How can this happen? What happens to all the people who had contracts with this company? You can offer the best warranty in the world and dissolve the company and it all goes away. That doesn't seem right to me. Will this happen again? How can these business practices be leagal? It sounds like Mad City Roofing Storm Division inc. knowingly commited fraud when they entered into a contract, did the work, then dissolving the company. I want it to be noted that I am not saying they do or did substandord work I'm just asking How is this allowed to go on?

He notes as a consumer in Madison, but then complains his small business can not afford TV campaigns or fancy marketing. This is very obvious a less than honest competitor of MCE who is jealous of the success of both company and individuals. The Original Complaint also was posted over a year ago and to date Mastercraft Exteriors has no lawsuits and an outstanding BBB record. Get to know our company personally by viewing our website profile section by clicking here  Mastercraft Family or view our administrative staffs informational videos at Clam Process . Dont be fooled by the competition, the reason for our success since 1996 throughout the nation is our commitment to the customer.

At Mastercraft Exteriors, Inc., we recognize that when a major storm hits, homeowners who have suffered storm damage to their homes need a skilled contractor who they can trust to assess the situation, help come up with solutions, and fix the damage.  We understand that homeowners have concerns about hiring contractors who are based from outside their communities because of reports they may hear from the media, consumer watch groups, and their neighbors about some untrustworthy, fly-by-night, roofing contractors in our industry. Thats why we at Mastercraft are proud to distinguish ourselves and let homeowners know that we are a well-established, reputable roofing and siding firm based in Rockton, Illinois, with affiliates incorporated in over 20 states nationwide that have helped thousands of satisfied homeowners restore their homes after major storms. Please take the time to review our BBB credentials listed below.

MCE has been helping homeowners repair their homes since 1996, and the company has had offices in the Madison, Wisconsin area since 2008. Mastercraft Exteriors, Inc., has an A+ rating with the BBB, is an Owens Corning Platinum Preferred Contractor (allowing us to offer the Owens Corning 50 YEAR Platinum Warranty to homeowners), has been recognized as an outstanding roofing contractor by Allied Building Products Corp. and ABC Supply Co., and, most importantly to us, has received numerous testimonials and recommendations from among its thousands of satisfied customers.  We know it is important that we earn the trust of homeowners, so we welcome homeowners to look us up for themselves at www.mastercraftexteriors.com and click on the Our Customers tab to read customer testimonials and to see before-and-after pictures of our work. Homeowners with further questions or concerns are always welcome to contact us; just click on the Contact Us link on our website for further contact information.

Mastercraft encourages consumers to remember that our industry is extremely competitive due to the lull in the economy and unscrupulous competition has used these "sounding board" anonymous websites to defame our firm and strike fear in the market. It is important to remember if a competitor utilizes such slanderous techniques, you should contact your local BBB, community groups and state protection agency to report these sales practices as they are deceptive sales practices. Mastercraft Continues to hold our workmanship, character, and reputation with the highest standards and our industry continually recognizes us for it. #7Consumer Suggestion

As a consumer in Madison, WI we just had some major storms come thru the area about 3 weeks ago and now I see these Mastercraft Exteriors monster truck driving around. I have also seen some other companies that claim to be locally owned. Never seen these companies before now and actually some of the Mastercraft trucks I saw had Illinois plates, now a couple had Wisconsin plates but it isn't hard to get a truck and get plates when you are a large company. The amount they will make in profit will pay for that vehicle. I would just recommend looking in the yellow pages or contact your local municipality and see who may be in business doing roofing or any handywork. With this economy there are many local contractors out there that do great work and need the work. As a small business owner some of us do not have the marketing budget to get tv commercials or do mass marketing. With the age of computers it isn't hard to find reputable people especially when you can easily look up a person's legal record for free. Good Luck.

You are full of s**t.  They have an A+ rating with the BBB and do outstanding work.  Not only were they great to work with, but were able to give me an upgraded shingle .  Which company do you work for???  Metropolitan???  You obviously are a low-income piece of s**t trying to give a great company a bad name.  Get a life scum bag!!
