Matthew Bennett Greene Stilas Law Firm Tried to scam my aged mother...BEWARE! Internet
Matthew Bennett Greene attempted to scam my aged mother, who is currently recovering from a stroke. First his "secretary" called my mother at 8:AM EST (New York time) on this past Monday and told her she won a 'sweepstakes award' (but never identified herself by name, left a phone number, or identified the name of the sweepstakes company). Mr. Greene then got on the line and identified himself to my mother and claimed she won $500,000.00 and that a check would be hand-delivered to her. However, they would take 1/6th of this amount.
When my mother mentioned that she had little money in the bank and that she would discuss the matter with me, Mr. Greene put her on hold and then terminated the phone call.
No phone number was left, no one appeared, and I researched Mr. Greene on the Internet and found that he was disbarred in at least one, possibly two American states. I have to assume Mr. Greene's potential scam was to ask my mother for a check for the 1/6th amount in exchange for a bogus check for the $500,000.00. We have an audiotape of this phone call and I have made it available to the authorities who are looking into this matter. Beware scams like this who prey on the elderly.
