I bought a Troybilt walk behind lawnmower on 04/09/04.I mowed my lawn one time and the engine failed.

I paid $999.99 plus tax.I returned to the store and spoke with the owner on 04/24/04,to see what he would do to remedy the situation.

The owner stated that he would do nothing other than give me the name of an authorizied service center and I would have to take it up with the manufactorer.

After many phone calls I am left without the use of a brand new mower for a minimum of 4 weeks, and the retailer is left with no responsability and a pocket full of cash.

I just went to the Troybilt website, http://www.troybilt.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/category2_10001_14102_54966_54966_54966_-1_1_8__0, and the most expensive walk behind they have is $379.99.  A 21 inch Rear wheel drive with a Kohler engine.  Model number TB86K XP 21".  If you are not credible in your report, you give all reporters a bad image.

I am not affiliated with Matt's but have done a lot of business with them and all has been good.

I just happened to read this rip off report and in defense of the hardware store, Troybilt is a very difficult company to deal with. They infact are no longer an independent company and are now owned by MTD. In order to get authorized warranty repairs the consumer would need to take the machine to a repair shop that covers the warranty work for MTD machines. Because of the change in manufacturing they tend to be a lesser quality machine and often mislead their customers into buying the equipment beccause of the name.

In this case I would have to say that yes infact it is not the ideal situation for the consumer to be in but in order to avoid such situations in the future, heavy research on quality machines would be in the consumers best interest.

Also in defense of your Ace Hardware experience, many consumers do not realize that all ace hardwares are independently owned and that i hope you find a better experience at another Ace Hardware.
