I purchased a Maytag range a couple of years ago. Within just a few months, I noticed that the tips of the grates were blistering, chipping and peeling. Maytag told me that this is a cosmetic problem and not covered by the warranty. I replaced two of the grates but they don't hold up any better than the originals.
When I called Maytag yesterday suggested that the problem was caused by leaving pots on the stove after cooking is finished and the gas is turned off. Apparently the finish is unable to stand up to heat. Maytag has announced no plans to redesign this part. They will however, continue to sell replacements that go bad.
