What a nightmare. I bought a new Dell computer about a month ago. The computer came with a 10 dollar coupon for McAfee antivirus software.  I thought OK, it's approved by Dell, let's go for it!

I bought and downloaded the software online. Everything was going OK for about a month.

All of a sudden I get this message pop-up on my screen from McAfee that I need to restart my computer. OK, this is what I did...after the restart I get the blue death screen, you know the one! The only way to get the computer to respond was to boot up in Safe Mode. Since I bought the computer at Best Buy I called them, they recommeded that I uninstall McAfee and then try it again. So I tried that, I unistalled McAfee and that still gave me the blue death screen. After that I grabbed the tower and took it in.  The Geek that I talked to was quite nice, he hooked it up and sent the software back to the last known good operating system. It now worked normal again on boot up.

I get home and call McAfee tech support, this guy is like a used car salesman...very insistent on me spending 169.00 a year.  THis package was suppose to do it all..solve all my computer and software issues. I insisted that I just want to reload McAfee which I just paid them 70 dollars for a month ago. THis Jerk, after he get's into my computer remotely and pitches hiis high pressure sales pitch said he was informed not to help me.  So I log him off my computer and reload McAfee myself. After the reload, my computer has the blue death screen back and I'm back to square one. So I start all over and unistall McAfee and then reload Norton and it's now working fine...

It's sad when companies stoop to these levels..

P.S. don't forget to log on and (turn off) the auto renewal. Your computer could be in the land-fill and they could still be charging you. Grrrrrrrrrr

#2Consumer Suggestion

Mcafee offers a 30 day, money back guarantee.  I suggest you call the customer service phone number and reiterate what happened to you.  They should have provided you with 30 day free tech support as well.  This is 30 days from the date you PAID for their product.

These "guarantees" are displayed on their home page.

I'm not sure exactly what product you purchased.  They have been offering their "total protection" product for $39 for some time now.

Good luck.
