Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I have been researching insurance plans for my employer and myself as an individual. I have been speaking to an agent representing Americans for Financial Security and Mega Life & Health. I have spoken w/ her several times & even met with her to go over the plan basics. Each time I have spoken with her I specifically ask her for a copy of the policy specs & physician listing. I want to see exactly what doctors participate, what is covered, how it is covered, what is exdluded, how the deductible is determined, what prescriptions are covered & what rate, etc.

Each time she sends me information it is anything but what I asked for. Why would the rep refuse to send me a copy of the policy??? I want to make an informed decision & it seems like the rep doesn't want to share the specs of the health/dental/prescription plan. She won't present me with an itemized cost either.

I met her in person about 3 weeks ago expecting to finally have the information I have been requesting. Instead, she pulled out a blank piece of paper & wrote a total down for the plan. This still did not provide me with an itemized cost, policy, or any details.

I know this is not common practice, as an insurance rep visited us yesterday & left policies for several different plans and detailed information on cost & coverage for us to review.

Why is this rep being so evasive?? Perhaps it is because there is something she doesn't want me to see? Wouldn't a reputable agent want to provide the consumer with the knowledge to make an informed decision? The company's website won't provide any information either. I am very skeptical on this.

Lisa- sorry to rub you the wrong way. I think I've gotten your attention, which is all I intended to do. Now, you seem very articulate and bright. Do yourself a favor. Seek out, ask questions....to Independent Agents. Don't ask your Cornerstone colleagues anything. You'll get nothing but smoke blown up your butt. Trust me, trust me, trust me. Get out and don't look back. You can have a great career, make tons of money, and TRULY, TRULY, provide only the best products for your clients. Just pick up the phone book and call a broker. Ask to sit down and discuss not only your product and his products, but the business as a whole. You'll be pleasantly surprised. Best wishes to you.

Anon in Chicago, ***Lisa, this is NOT HOW IT WORKS in the insurance business my dear novice. I mail/email price quotes to all of my clients, as do all other Professional Agents. You are BRAINWASHED with Cornerstone tactics. YOU ARE UNEQUIVOCALLY WRONG!!!! Isn't this pathetic? This dumbass has taken her time to write this COCOMAMIE rebuttal to this gentleman and doesn't know her head from her a*s.*** As you have followed me, through hill and dale to find anything I've written, only to insult me and call me names without even knowing me, I have to say that your credibility has certainly been lost on me. You can say I'm "brainwashed" and you can absolutely point out when I'm "wrong". However, why don't you try and be a little tactful about it? This is the 3rd post I've read this morning, directed at insult and injury both to me and one other agent. I do my best and that is all I can do. I truly feel sorry for others that you disagree with. I would hate to have a drink with you after work and talk politics for fear of losing a couple of teeth, if this is how you act on a bulletin board. I ask that you refrain from calling me names and insulting me and/or my person. If you have a problem with a policy or company, fine, direct your attention to that issue. But if you can not be constructive about things directed towards me, rather than insulting, rude and destructive, then I respectfully request you turn your head and do not respond. You have called me everything from a loser/sucker/liar/dumb @ss/etc. in several postings, either insinuating or directly and that is just plain uncalled for. I would hope your clients aren't aware of your behavior. Thank you for your time

"It is also against policy to leave any printed quotes with clients. This is true for almost all sales industries. If you were to go into a car dealership, get an appraisal for your car, negotitiate a price for a new car, and then decide to do more shopping, that dealership is not going to let you walk out with any of the aforementioned papers to take to another dealership, just so they can beat their price. This is just not the way it works". Lisa, this is NOT HOW IT WORKS in the insurance business my dear novice. I mail/email price quotes to all of my clients, as do all other Professional Agents. Gentleman from Lutz, FL: Pick up your yellow pages and find a local health insurance broker. You may end up talking to one of these Mid-West or Mega Agents by mistake. They will tell you they are brokers. They will tell you anything to buy their garbage. Insist on only working with a broker that sells individual policies with a minimum of 5 companies and is member of the IIAA (www.iiaa.org)

Differences in companies and policies

#8Consumer Suggestion

Tue, September 20, 2005

Dear D in Lutz, Fl I am sorry you feel the way you do about the tactics of your representative. While I do not work for Mega, I do work with the sister company (a*s). With that being said, I basically handle the same exact products as your current rep. I would like to answer some questions for you, as there are some differences in how our policies are laid out v. other companies. 1. Each time I have spoken with her I specifically ask her for a copy of the policy specs & physician listing. We operate through the Beechstreet network. This list is readily available on our website for you to view. Unfortunately, she didn't make you aware of this,, nor did she follow your request. However, our plans do not require you to use our providers. Therefore, you have a choice to use whatever Dr, that you see fit for your needs at the time. This also gives you the ability to see Dr's without the need for a referral. As for a copy of the "policy specs", there is no way any of us can provide you with this. Unlike other companies, our plans our custom tailored to meet the needs of the specific client. There is no "one size fits all" policy in our plan. This is the beauty of our policies. Technically, this means that if you are healthy and haven't seen a Dr, in the last 25 years and don't feel as though it would be cost effective to pay for Dr's visits on your policy, then you don't have to. This makes a difference in premium and it means that you are not paying costs for unnecessary benefits that will never be used. 2.I want to make an informed decision & it seems like the rep doesn't want to share the specs of the health/dental/prescription plan. She won't present me with an itemized cost either. I commend you for wanting to be informed. Kudos to you. But, when she sat with you, did she have in front of her the full benefits manaul? Most of the benefits are completely laid out in the book that we do presentations with. Again, it depends on what you actually decide to add to your policy (as dental is an option) but even with the dental there is a full page write up that explains the payout dollar for dollar. Other than that, we can not foresee what you will be charged for a procedure, only what "Omaha Trust" has told us is the "usual and customary" charge for that procedure. *there is a big difference between usual and customary v. reasonable and allowable.* Reasonable and Allowable: The insurance company decides how much "they" think the procedure is worth and how much "they" are willing to pay. Usual and Customary: A pool is taken of each state and an average is acquired to what the majority charges. This average is then attributed as the usual charge and therefore allotted as the payment. As for the prescriptions, it is a simple phone call to the insurance center w/ a hypothetical for prescriptions (name brand, other wise it is a nominal co-pay on generic) and the insurance center will actually find the local pharmacy that will give you the best rates. An estimated cost can be given to the agent, however, if you are looking to cover your employer and then yourself as an individual, this is a privacy issue. She would need to know every prescription that everyone on both of the policies are taking, prior to making any types of phonecalls. As an ethical practice it would be ok for her to do this specifically for you, but not for your employer and his/her family. Admittedly, I have done this for clients, but again admittedly, it is very time consuming. *On the same note, I have clients that call me at 11 pm when they go to ER just because they want to know what to do next.* 3.I met her in person about 3 weeks ago expecting to finally have the information I have been requesting. Instead, she pulled out a blank piece of paper & wrote a total down for the plan. This still did not provide me with an itemized cost, policy, or any details. I am not sure why she would give you a blank piece of paper with the total cost for the plan, except that she was probably working from a laptop and didn't have access to a printer. It is also against policy to leave any printed quotes with clients. This is true for almost all sales industries. If you were to go into a car dealership, get an appraisal for your car, negotitiate a price for a new car, and then decide to do more shopping, that dealership is not going to let you walk out with any of the aforementioned papers to take to another dealership, just so they can beat their price. This is just not the way it works. As for an itemized list, if she again was working on a laptop, she could have pulled up a view to show you, but still could not leave that paperwork with you. But all too often, people get caught up in price of this or that. If I told you that vision care would cost you $3 per month added to your premium, would you add it to your policy? At the same time, if I built value in that vision care by also telling you that your normal lenses were free, frames averaged a 50%-60% discount, and your yearly exam was free... would you find value in that benefit? 4.Why is this rep being so evasive?? Perhaps it is because there is something she doesn't want me to see? Wouldn't a reputable agent want to provide the consumer with the knowledge to make an informed decision? The company's website won't provide any information either. I am very skeptical on this. I don't know that she is being evasive. It is possible that she doesn't know that she can direct you to the particular websites or doesn't have access to them. I wouldn't presume that there is anything she doesn't want you to see, basically because I've just listed most of the reasons. Alternatively, we can only do so much. Sometimes we don't have all the answers and maybe she doesn't realize it is completely ok to say "I don't know, but I'll find out".??? As for the companies website, you are required to login prior to gaining access to certain elements. However, there is a contact page, and on their are phone numbers readily available on thier website. I know that we (AAS) have trifolds that we can give you as an alternative to help you find the information. Again, as an agent with the sister company, I can easily say "yes, an agent does want to help you make an informed decision." But sometimes we just don't know the answer, it pertains to private individual information we are not allowed to divulge, we don't have all the information required from the client to make the necessary inquiries and sometimes we just don't have the time. **I have been so busy that I've had to hire a secretary. My secretary has no access to any of the information and only does phone work, set appointments and filing of "non-private" documents. I truly am sorry for your confusion or your dismay, but I also hope that I have helped in even some small way.
