Beware of job offers made by Melton. The company presents themselves well on the internet and videos on YouTube, making them look like a place you would want to work. Including good cents per mile for CDL drivers.

But after you are offered a job as a driver and sent to Birmingham for orientation, you will learn that the company is not what they have held themselves out to be. First, you will be doubled up in a run down Holiday Inn with another guy who does not want a roommate. Then, you are subjected to the antics of a certifiable psychopath for 4 days who has made up his mind who he likes and who he doesn't within the first hour of the first day. You will be humiliated by this nut in front of other new hires until finally 50% of the class of new hires are sent home based solely on this one psycho's evaluation.

During your orientation, you will be made to crawl across narrow surfaces at a height of 14 feet without any type of fall protection or any barrier between you and the concrete below. You will be required to carry weight in excess of 100 pounds over your head in any kind of weather conditions to satisfy the kook's sadistic leanings. You will be required to drive a wore out tractor trailer with a bad rear-end and no trailer brakes - it would never pass a DOT inspection but Melton has somehow convinced DOT that they are a safe operator so do not get checked frequently. This should change immediately.

Through several weeks of contact with Melton, they misrepresented themselves to me on multiple occassions and eventually I felt threatened by the psycho who is the first live contact I had with the company. After meeting and talking with several other drivers at the Birmingham terminal, I was not surprised to learn that half were planning to quit.

The best advice I can give you is stay away from Melton, everything is sugar-coated when you are evaluating them as a possible employer but once inside the company you will find it is a nightmare.

So then, how many preventable collisions or citations did you have on your record before they found out and sent you home from orientation?
