I was contacted by a representative of Memphis10s via the internet. I was shown pictures of women, posing, and was asked if I thought I had what it takes to be a model for Memphis10s, I should submit my pictures, measurements, and contact information. I immediately submitted this information, and a photo shoot was set-up.

After the photo shoot, I was given a list of VIP names. (all men) I was told to contact the vip list, and invite them to a party. At the party, I was told to mingle, drink, and dress in sheer, loose, erotic clothing.

A week after the party, I was contacted by Memphis10s regarding a start-up joining fee. ($1500) I informed the representative, I didn't have the fee, at that time, I was told to refer to the vip list given to me earlier, and the start-up fee would be waived. I asked the representative about extending the due date for the start-up fee, I was then informed that my services would no longer be needed.

I'm only 19 years old, did I miss something? Is this the way modeling agencies do business?

First let me break down the original posters message. Amber and Mary are obviously the same person. Amber modified her message on June 13th and low and behold "Mary" created her post on June 13th. I worked for Memphis10s which was a very small promo modeling company ran by a 23 year old college student (female) at the time. It wasn't any full fledge running company but something for young commercial models to do and sell CALENDAR posters at events to make money and get FREE photography from the owner who was a photography student. We worked for car shows, did car washes mostly to sell our calendars in which we had to pay NOTHING and contribute NOTHING but our time to be involved in. That girl put up her own money for Memphis10s and didn't ask us of anything. Of course with Memphis being as small of a city as it is..and every little girl thinking she's "beautiful" enough to model, there came some issues. There were only 12 main models, the ones who were on the calendar, MOST of them were close friends to the owner (the 23 year old) The races of the girls varied from European, to African, to Latin. It was a great and diverse group, which is why we got a lot of attention. She ONLY picked very in shape models who were OVER the age of 21! So this person who claims to be 19 and contacted by this "company" is lying there. We had contracts and had to give photo copies of our I.D. There were tons of VERY upset models that were rejected and for that they hated the owner for it. I almost feel as if the owner was an older male, she wouldn't have gotten so much flack for not picking EVERYONE to be involved. She had an idea and was awfully creative and made it happen. There were young girls so upset at her that they tried to physically assault her several times, threw drinks on her, etc., etc. JUST because they couldn't handle rejection. And of course resulted to smearing the poor girls name all over the internet like gutless cowards. Which is very sad because she was ALWAYS so nice and gracious to all of us. For our photoshoots and gigs, she would order us breakfast, buy our wardrobe, negotiate and barter with make up artists and assure we were being treated RESPECTFULLY by crew and employers alike. She didn't send us on gigs ONE at a time, we all were at the gigs together, EVEN she was there working the gigs. Many people adored this girl in the city of Memphis BUT a select few that were shunned and weren't apart of the selective promo modeling team. And of course we all know how vindictive women can be. Unfortunately, she tried to run the business with HER OWN MONEY and had to close shop BECAUSE she didn't ask us for anything, some people took advantage of her niceness. WE all still got to sell our calendars, got free pictures and money from our gigs. Note to whoever started this crappy post and basically on here making statements that are clearly LIBEL and you better hope she never sees this (if I don't send it to her) and have YOU, personally sued for this. Out of all the people I worked with during the time I was a Memphis10s promo model, I NEVER EVER had to deal with anything remotely close to what you are reporting. Basically not only are you libeling Memphis10s, but you are making false statements as to ensue that we were undercover hookers? Shame on you for posting such a thing!

Be careful when they ask for money

This is not the way a legitimate modeling agency does business. Memphis10s does have the reputation of being a front for a sleazy, adult type of service from what I've heard and seen. Anytime a modeling agency asks for a start-up joining fee, be very careful. I can't think of any solid agency that would do so. The representative giving you a VIP list and telling you to invite them to a party and dress in provocative clothing, is a good indication of what a poor company they are. Unfortunately there are many such companies who seem to prey on young women by enticing them with modeling jobs. There are also good ones out there. Check out any offers you get before going to a shoot. Ask around to see what type of reputation they have and look at the work they do before agreeing to be photographed. Best of luck to you.
