Brough 29" x 35" Pella windows from another supplier, they did not have enough in stock, so I went to Menards, they had what I wanted, so I brough the remainder at Menards.

When I return home I check the the price of the Pella windows I brough at the other supplier with what I brough at Menards. Menards was $19.33 higher per window. I went back to Menards, since they grarentee, the lowest price.

Jason L., in the window department said they weren't the same windows, I said they where. He said they had different serial numbers. I went back to the other supplier, and the gentlemen told me that each store has there own serial number, and the windows where the same.

I used to work for Mneards. They guarantee the 11% low price , but find a way not to come through on that promise. They will tell you it has to be the same exact item, even manufacturers. But when you meet their requirements, they will either say the color is a bit off, or off by an inch, or have an extra digit in the model number. These are all ways for them to steal your money. Another thing they do, is to lower their price by a penny when you tell them the competition is lower. That way they have the lower price. They will not take care of you. I would just go to menards, get a written estimate, and take it to Lowes or Depot. THey actually honor their 10% gaurantee.

Go to the manufacturer

I had a similar problem with windows from Menards where they would not take responsibility for damage they had done to them. I contacted the manufacturer and they wouldn't even let me finish my story - they just volunteered to replace them, let me keep the old ones, and shipped them to me. Good deal. Not Pella though, it was Jeld Wen (Wenco)

The Pella windows that Lowes stock have 5/8" standard insulated glass. The Pella windows that Menards stock have argon filled low-E high performance glass. That is why the price is different.

With so many people trying to rip everyone off these days, you need to be ready to plead your case. You should have brought in the exact information and talked to the Millwork manager and then the store Manager. You would have gotten your rebate!

Employment Laws - security cameras in your situation is legal

#8Consumer Comment

Sat, January 17, 2004

Your contention that it is illegal to use security cameras in your situation is incorrect. The use of security cameras is two fold - first as a security tool to help prevent shoplifting by employees and customers alike, and second to check on employees. The Federal Courts have upheld their use in all areas of a business except for the washrooms. Now for your complaint that you were fired because unjustly. You can file for unemployment compensation. If you were fired unjustly then you would be eligible for unemployment benefits. You can also file a complaint with your union (if you were a member. Lastly, you can file a complaint with the EEOC if you believe you were discriminated against. I do feel that you have not given us all the information in regard to your firing. That there is more here than you are telling.

i worked at Menards for about 7 months at my store manager comes up to me and tells me that i am not doing my job because i wasn't helping this customer, when really i was helping him i just walked away for a second to find the product but the video looks like i didn't help him. i feel this is not right because it is against the law to video tape an employer working without his/her consent, the Menards i worked at in Glendale Heights,Illinois do have security cameras but it is only to watch if people shoplift and its for that reason only they instead take advantage of the cameras and spy on there employee's to see if they are working. also when i approached my store manager politely to ask if i could have another chance and why am i being fired my store manager told me to get the hell out of the store or her will call the police and that he does not have to answer and he said i have no right to talk or find out why am i being fired. i feel that the way this manager treated me is not right he is discrimated against me, he has something against me i want you or someone else to take care of this situation because now i have no job but lots of bills to pay, please check this out and contact me thank you

Store Credit Rebate Checks Perfectly Legal

#13Consumer Comment

Tue, December 30, 2003

Dan, Menards issuing store credit checks for rebates is perfectly legal. When I lived near a Menards I used them all the time. It is written in the store ads, on the sale signs in the store, and on the rebate form that the rebate will be issued in a store credit check. It is your choice not to buy the products if you do not wish to accept the store credit rebate.

Hi guy. I am also catching on to the musical serial numbers game they are playing. I have the "you decide" report listed as i also had trouble with them honoring the price match +11% Guarentee.Menards have clean, attractive, and well organized stores that tend to draw me in, but i have alittle more pride in Lowes and Home Depot because they have been better on making the price match if you can show its the same product instead of giving you the run around. That shows me they want to keep my buisness. And they will!! Just to be honest on your deal, If they would have just told you sorry, you needed to try for a price match prior to the sale and admitted it was the same product after seeing and compairing, i would have had to respect the outcome. But the serial number game on the same product presents a real trust issue for me and other consumers as wether or not to view the chain as a reputable company worthy of the highest consumer confidence or not . Maybe someday, the board will put in a new CEO who will step up to the plate and implament better consumer relations that demand fair product compairison if they plan to stand behind their price match Guarentee.

I also have had a problem with there merchandise rebates in that I do not receive cash, but a purchse check good for only purchases at Menards. I contacted the Wisconsin Cconsumer Protection office and was informed that this is perfectively legal. I would still keep contacting the state Consumer Protection Office where you live and possibly your elective officials for their answer, on how to handle problems at Menards. It always seems BIG BUSINESS only cares for itself, but in numbers can-then will people have a voice in this nation. This is why we need to lobby for the end of PAC contributions for elections in this country! Goodday!

Your just cheap. Menards offers the best prices on everything they carry. Just admit that you have saved hundreds by shopping there and that the Service was 100 times better than anywhere else you've shopped. Stop being so cheap and be happy you got your windows.

Go to the manufacturer and ask them the same question about the serial numbers. Then take it to Menards if the manufacturer says its the same product.
