Have usually had good luck with Menards when I lived nearby a physical store.  Their person-to-person skills are very good.  However, I've moved away and am trying to get a replacement for a powertool that I had a replacement plan on.  The receipt disappeared in the move (my fault), but they have NO TRACKING METHOD other than me physically coming into the store with the original credit card used to purchase the item to prove that I have the replacement plan.  For a company which claims it's trying to compete with Lowes & Home Depot, this is VERY poor customer service.  How this affects me?  Unless I want to drive to the nearest Menards to complete their ritual (which in gas, time & maintenance will cost as much or more than the replacement cost of the tool), they have my money for both the tool and a protection plan that I can't use.

Bottom line:  If you're staying near the Menards, they're ok to work with.  If you may move (as many military personnel often do), be leery of purchasing tools from them.  Lowes & Home Depot are almost everywhere and will work with you to keep you satisfied.  Menards flunks this test.

Sorry, but I feel that you flunked the test by not keeping your receipt.  The fact that menards has a kiosk to look up your receipt shows that they are trying to help the customer stay organized and increase the odds that the customer will be able to make a successful return/exchange.  You are lucky that they even have this option.

ALSO, Menards does have a tracking system for replacement plans, but it is your responsibility to register your plan when you make the initial purchase.  Sorry if you did not know this, but it is your responsibility as the consumer to protect yourself by keeping good records and following the standard procedures that are in place.
