College students are easy to RIP OFF. Landlords know that they're mostly too naive to fight back or won't follow through on a complaint. Students let these money grabbers get away with this by not fighting back.

At the very least everyone should file a complaint with The Better Business Bureau. Don't let them get away with YOUR money!
 
Two sets of parents went to Morgantown to help their daughters move out of their COURTYARD WEST apartment. We spent 2 days vigorously cleaning and scrubbing the apt. with our goal being to leave the apartment in an acceptable condition which we THOUGHT would ensure the return of our individual security deposits of $525.00 each occupant. 
 

We were wrong. METRO PROPERTIES sent us each a small fraction of the deposit by check which incidentally had " Security deposit refund paid in FULL" printed at the bottom of each check.
 
 ( a shady way of providing an out for themselves so that once you cash the check they won't be responsible to return your ENTIRE deposit because cashing the check proves you are compliant.)

They created every reason imaginable to keep our deposits. Their checklist of over 40 COMPLAINTS didn't correspond with the apartment we had cleaned. They were insistent that we left the apartment in bad shape and charged us $180.00 to clean the apartment. Again. (Apparently the apt. was SO dirty that it needed to be cleaned TWICE! ) Out of curiosity, we called a random Morgantown cleaning services and the average cost to clean a vacant 2 bedroom apartment INCLUDING supplies is $150.00. Metro charged us $180.00 plus an additional $37.50 EACH for "supplies.!"

They charged us $75.00 more to replace 5 blinds! ( which is ridiculous because they didn't need to be replaced!} Um...EVERY blind in the apartment needed to be replaced? Seriously? B.S.!

They charged EACH tenant $295.00 for repainting the entire apartment! (the apartment hadn't been painted in a very long time before the girls moved in!) The paint they DO use is cheap, flat paint. They intentionally use this cheap paint to gouge their tenants at the end of the lease.   RED FLAGS everywhere...

Embedded in each rental agreement is a CLAUSE which states that every tenant will be charged $140.00 for carpet cleaning of their apt. yet ourgirls'  carpet was VERY dirty with more than one stain.(My daughter walked barefoot in the apt. and within 2 hours her feet were solid BLACK! We made note of it and called management. We were told the carpet would be cleaned. THAT never happened, but they charged the previous tenant for carpet cleaning! Why should we be charged to clean carpets that weren't delivered to us clean?  RIP OFF. UNFAIR BUSSINESS PRACTICE...

I would NEVER have spent two entire days cleaning the apartment if I had known that METRO PROPERTIES was going to charge me $180.00 plus an additional $37.50 for "supplies" to clean the apartment.
 
 MORAL OF THE STORY?
 
Don't even BOTHER cleaning your apartment at Courtyard West in Morgantown, W.V because they're going to charge you for it ANWAY! 

They are blatantly profiting from keeping security deposits at the end of their leases. They'll charge you for carpet cleaning and not deliver a clean carpet to the next tenant, they'll charge you for painting and not actually give you a freshly painted apartment etc.! Run FAR away from unscrupulous businesses!

If you want your deposit back consider NOT paying your last months rent!

They will manipulate the truth and nitpick your deposit right out of your hands and SWEAR they deserve your money!
