Microtec Support MicrotecSupport.com Scam to "protect" you from software viruses Internet
It sounded fishy to me, when they called saying that MicroSoft had hired them to detect software problems on individual computers and to respond to those problems. I told them to call back later. Checking on Ripoff Report--sure enough, others had been scammed by them. Thank you Ripoff Report!
I've called the FTC as suggested. The woman there was very helpful and took down the details, including the phone number that Microtec Support had given to me. She said they've had a lot of reports about them, and every additional report was helpful in tracking them down.
