I completely understand what you are saying, but please dont think that all of the Microtels are like this. I work at a Microtel in OH, and believe me our hotels is wonderful, its kept up very well, many ppl that come in ask us if its a new building actually and its actually 10yrs old. There is a level of customer satisfaction that Microtel has, I would advise you to call 1-800-771-7777 and speak to someone that can help you. I do hope that you give Microtel another chance..

Wait...I've identified your error. You actually believe, that like in some civilized areas of our beautiful U.S. , that there is actually a health code here in Sevier County. As someone who has worked for several restaurants, I can assure you that those paper health codes only apply to the lowly ones w/o the right last name or connections, maybe moola. Motels here, mostly are vile and haven't been really hard cleaned or remodeled since the 70s. Now, everyone stays in cabins and these roach bait motels go unfilled, even in the height of tourist season. Oh well, serves the industry right.

Hello-- I had a similar negative experince with an online booking through Expedia. I originally became aware of the hotel because they are listed on my frequent flyer webpage as being tied in with my airline. I booked one room for 2 nights, plus a second room for the second night. It was an Econo-lodge in Tallahassee, and the pictures looked okay. It was a disgusting hell-hole. My room was on a corner, and the hotel had a lot of single men borderline vagrants hanging outside the room doors getting drunk. The hotel was also literally right outside a freeway exit ramp, so the sound of high speed trafic was constant. The room itself, which the chain brags about getting cleaned with all these name brand items, was dirty. There was a huge spider on the ceiling, the only way I could figure out how to kill it was with a wet towel (to make it heavy enough to kill the bug). The wet towel hit the floor after I smashed the bug, and when I picked it up, it was dirty and covered with a wig's worth of human hair. Apparently "housekeeping" left something to be desired. There was mold growing in the light fixture in the bathroom, amd it appeared that there had been a serious leak in the unit above at some point because about one third of the ceiling was lumpy and looked like it had been plastered over after water damage. I checked out in the morning and asked to cancel the other reservation for the 2 rooms that evening. I was allowed to do this, although the brain-dead clerk had difficulty figuring it out. I also sent an email to the company stating how incredibly disappointing the place was, and that I originally found them as a link through my airline frequent flyer webpage. They were actually quite gracious in their response, and they said they were forwarding my comments to the hotel. I think poor management is often to blame for these situations, not necessarily the chain itself. Never the less, I won't be staying at an Econo-Lodge again anytime soon.
