You said that the employee admitted that she stole the money and she flunked the polygraph test. Your next step is to have your lawyer sue the motel (who employed the cleaner) as well as the cleaning woman. You should also press charges against her. Forget about the free room. By the time your lawyer gets through with the motel and owner the free room would be a pittance.

in my case, I never ever stay at non-corporate hotels. However I would stay at a B&B own by a individual ..thats a whole different deal. But then I would never leave personal stuff in the hotel room ever.

I have tried to reach someone. I even filed a dispute with the BBB and they did not respond. They are not corp owned it is owned by an individual that is not willing to take any responsibility for this incident. Micro Tel Hotels are all individually owned. I just hope that other hotels like this have better owners.

I would say you still have a lawsuit capable of at least getting free comp or better. Last time similar happend to my dad, he lost $200 (& billfold). Its extremely easy to get comp from hotels, the biggest way is to: 1. Go to GM first, and if that fails go regional, if that failes go to CEO of chain. In my dads case, he went straight to the CEO of Hilton hotels and copied the CEO of American Airlines and explained what Happened. Just to say, often going to the top works. I myself have actually made money by my own stupid mistakes & loss's.

Tulsa Police Department went ahead and polygraphed this employee and she failed and admitted to stealing money. The hotel never responded to the BBB and really was not cooperative with the detective. This is sad considering we have proof the employee stole it and the hotel will not even comp our hotel stay from hell.

I cant beleive anybody would leave a wallet or $$ lying around. You should have already understood how dumb that was. even so, hopefully you were able to cancel/resisus cards and maybe get some of your loss back. But in reality, you screwed yourself, in the case of a hotel you are always better off taking your valuables with u or having them put in the hotel safe.

You would be wise to protect yourself from identity theft. You should immediately TELEPHONE all three credit reporting agencies (Equifax, Trans-union, and Esperian) to place a temporary fraud alert on your credit records. Do NOT use ANY WEBSITE to do this. When you call, give them the report number from the police you reported the theft with. They will tell you where to MAIL a copy of the police report - if they dont, then ASK for the mailing address. After you obtain a copy of the police report, you should mail a letter to all three CRAs that includes a copy of the police report and request a one year fraud alert placed on your records. This will alert any creditors to CONTACT you directly before establishing any new credit in your name. This will also allow you to obtain 2 free credit reports from EACH CRA during the next 6 months so you can monitor your credit reports for attempted identity theft. These free reports are in ADDITION to any annual free credit report you may have previously obtained. The entitlement to these additional free credit reports is mandated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act when there is reason to suspect possible identity theft and the consumer places a fraud alert on their credit records. Submitting a copy of the police report is required by this law to envoke this entitlement, so don't forget to follow up with the police and obtain a written copy of the police report. You can read the Fair Credit Reporting Act at ftc.gov/os/statutes/fcradoc.pdf Hope this helps. Good luck.

I don't know why the mgr/owner would lie about owning the hotel, that doesn't make since. I agree that once they found out that it was an employee who took the money that they should have comp'd the room at that time. Have you called Microtel guest assistance to file a complaint about this incident? They are not going to be able to do anything about getting your money back, however by doing that you might be able to get your room refunded and at least get some answers from the manager.

We did call the police and are still dealing with all of this. Make a long story short, she could have offered to comp the room instead of taking absolutly no responsibility for her employees action. After all any buisiness is responsible for employees action because it represents who they are. She threatened to kick me out if I made a sceene and I asked her if she would kick me out for telling everyone the truth and she thought about it and said no. Of course not! But no resolution and the fact that you would lie and not admit that you own this place according to another employee that answered the phone this morning!

We did file a police report at the hotel however the Hotel Manager took no responsibility for that employees actions. The right thing to do would have been to comp the room, instead she told me that if I made a seen she would kick me out.

I am not sure why the owner would lie to you about being corporately owned etc. In this case the hotel gave you the information that the housekeeper stole the money, they in turn fired the housekeeper. They probably should have comp'd your room, but other than that I'm not sure what else you expect them to do. If you haven't already, you need to let the police know that the hotel fired the lady for stealing and that the hotel may have some evidence against her. At this point you need to let the police handle the situation and be sure to press charges once they do arrest her.
