We bought a rebuilt engine for a Ford Explorer in April, 2007. In December, 2008 head gasket blew and we called the repair shop to have it fixed since we have a 3 year warranty through Mid-Atlantic Engines, Inc. We were told that Mid-Atlantic Engines, Inc. are no longer in business and the repair shop said that Powertrain Products is covering some of the warranties on Mid-Atlantic's engines, but for some reason, not ours. Powertrain Products are now located at the same address that Mid-Atlantic Engines were located, and when you call the "800" number for Mid-Atlantic, the message says that you have reached Powertrain Products.

We have been unable to speak with anyone at Powertrain Products to find out why they are not honoring our warranty, nor have we been able to leave any messages with them.

If anyone has any information which could help us find a remedy to this problem, please reply to this report. We would deeply appreciate it. We cannot afford to buy a new engine, nor should we have to since it is under warranty. The engine itself only has 9,500 miles on it since we got it last April.

Thank you.

You blow a headgasket, you void anyone's warranty

If you blow a headgasket, you void anyone's warranty. A headgasket isn't a moving part. It's like a safety valve though. If it GETS TO YOU and it's good (ie the engine runs well when it leaves the shop) the only way it can go bad is if you abuse it by running it hot. In those instances, it's there to act as a place to relieve pressure so the engine doesn't explode and launch chunks of metal everywhere, killing someone. If your headgasket has blown, you kept driving when the idiot light (check engine light) was on, and now you are trying to get someone else to eat your mistake. You weren't ripped off, but are in fact trying to rip someone else off now.
