***Warning*** Modified Engine Rebuilders tried to sell us a STOLEN engine!!! DO NOT BUY from this company. Please learn from our mistake and DO NOT TRUST this company with any of your money or time. We found Modified Engine Rebuilders from Fort Lauderdale, FL on Ebay in August of 2015. We contacted them concerning a 2015 Cummins ISX15 engine we needed. The owner, Joseph *****, said he would locate an engine from one of his contacts. In September 2015, Joseph advised us that he had an engine and required a 50% deposit, which was paid the same month. The following month, October 2015, Joseph said he needed the remainder of the balance. We paid the full amount of $28,500 before the end of October 2015.

The stress began in November of 2015 when we received several phone calls from Florida and California law enforcement agencies. They explained that Joseph was part of an INSURANCE FRAUD SCAM buying and selling stolen engines across the U.S. The numbers of victims and money lost from this SCAM are astronomical. In December, over a month after Joseph’s business was raided by law enforcement with search warrants, we spoke to Joseph who stated he would not be able to refund us our money but that he would attempt to locate another engine. It is now March 2016, Modified Engine Rebuilders has failed to either provide a replacement engine or refund us the $28,500. The California Highway Patrol contacted us this week and they advised us that numerous arrests were going to be a result of this SCAM.

We now have to hire an expensive attorney to begin the legal process of getting our money back. There is no timeframe which we will finally receive any of our money back. Let’s just hope Joseph doesn’t file bankruptcy before then.

In November of 2015 Modified Engine Rebuilders Inc. was informed, by the FDLE, that several of the engines that it had sold in the normal course of business were in fact stolen engines. The engines were subsequently seized by law enforcement from the warehouse of one of Modified’s suppliers. Unfortunately, one of the seized engines had been purchased by the customer now complaining, Jen Smith.

Modified had no knowledge of the origins of this, or any other, engine that it sells to customers beyond the information provided by its suppliers. Please also note that Modified has never been involved in any insurance fraud nor has the company ever been accused of or charged with any such crime. It is completely irresponsible for this customer to libel the company in this manner. Modified was as much a victim in this situation as the customer. Modified had already paid the supplier for the engines in full when the seizure occurred.

I spoke with Jen Smith after all this occurred and I tried to work with her to make her whole. I explained that because she was a bona fide purchaser she should go through the insurance company and the police department. They would be able to further assist her with her claim and recovery of funds. She refused to go that route and decided instead to demand that Modified pay her back directly. I further explained that the engines were confiscated from our supplier’s warehouse and not from Modified; and not due to any fault of Modified’s.  I repeatedly directed her to the proper channels for her to resolve this issue. It would appear that she is now attempting to use this venue to publicly pressure the company into bending to her unreasonable demands. Modified is being victimized a second time. Jen Smith has already been instructed as to how to handle her claim. Modified bears no liability for the customer’s willful disregard for those instructions. Any losses suffered by the customer at this point are the direct result of her own actions and not Modified’s.

Modified Engine Rebuilders values its customers and takes all customer complaints seriously. Modified always tries to work with its customers to facilitate a successful outcome to their issue. Modified takes great pride in its history of superior customer service. Modified did whatever was within its power to satisfy this customer. This customer took actions that were specifically instructed against and Modified was not required to give into the unreasonable demands of the customer under these circumstances.

Sincerely,

Joseph Daleo Jr.

President
